There are alot of good rippers out there on the marketplace. I'll start with a free one EAC. You can get it here: http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/ You will need an external compressor to turn the files into MP3 Format. There are also alot of them out there on the market. I would suggest the LAME encoder.

For a stand-alone program that needs no external files to operate, I suggest MusicMatch. You can get it at www.musicmatch.com it's a fantastic all in one program and an excellent music manager, should your collection grow and grow.

The standard encoding rate for the most part is 192. Your drive will support encoding at bit rates up to 320. Welcome to the forum, and thank you for your post!

thanks a lot for your reply MP3Mogul
sorry for late reply but i have been reserching a lot and i am going mad with my cd rom drive (and my ignorance)...according to this page http://www.zlurp.com/hardware.html
my hitachi8330 shows SIA as FALSE so that means i have to keep trying
on the jitter control settings and I cant find the right ones so the mp3 i encode are full of hicups and little distortions..i have tried mp3producer from http://www.mp3developments.com/mp3producer.php
and now i'm trying CDEX from http://www.surf.to/cdex and still I cant find the right settings...Read Sector? Read Overlap? Block Compare?Number of Retries? CD Speed? Enable Jitter correction or not? Is it better CBR or VBR? [:(!][:(!][:(!] ...i'm so confused i just cant get round to it anynore...all i'm looking for is a stand alone that works but the problem is probably me not being very good at setting up...
i wish a was an expert like you...sorry for the trouble....
thanks again and of course if u have any suggestion i would thank you
from my heart [:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)] all the best Claudio

No trouble at all..... as for your question on CBR vs. VBR here is the answer: CBR (Constant Bit Rate) is great for space saving, if you utilize it, I would suggest 192 encoding. VBR is the absolute best for sound quality, it will chose the best encoding and switch during encoding, more bit rate for heavy music, less for merely vocals, etc..... I do however suggest MusicMatch www.musicmatch.com. It's a great starter program, I am a Beta/Alpha tester for the software, it's great and it creates wonderful MP3's. Let me know how things go...

hello again from Italy,[8D][8D][8D][8D][8D]
thanks for your patience and help[^][^][^][^]
I honestly think I will have to buy a new cdrom drive as i cannot
rip mp3 from my old and useless Hitachi8330 with ANY software...[:(][:(][:(][:(][:(][:(][:(][:(] I also followed your advice
I downloaded MusicMatch and I have to tell you how disappointed I was when I started recording and suddenly I got the screen with the usual
"This program has been terminated...etc..."[:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!]
God knows what wrong with my computer or with my cdrom drive...
I am truly desperate as I cant afford to buy a new drive and
I am going crazy trying hundreds of different settings on the jitter correction with no results....
Do i have to contact hitachi for advice? Would they care to help my out? I doubt it....what do you honestly think I can do at this point in time and do u actually think this problem can be solved and how?
thanks again from my heart[:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)]

I can't find anything regarding your drive on the Hitachi website. How old is the drive, what speed is it, and last but not least, tell me about your system also, i.e. Pentium 400 MHZ, or whatever. Thanks again.

alpanfilo -> RE: CDR hitachi 78330 ripping (12/16/2002 2:28:58 AM)

thank you LOTS LOTS LOTS for keeping in touch. MY FRIEND
i just cant understand why the whole world rips mp3s while i cant although mycdrom supports DAE....i have found a few (very few in fact!) resources about my cdrom drive Hitachi 8330:
(very good PDF with tech details of my Hitachi)
http://www.hitachistorage.com/assets/applets/CDR833x_inst.pdf
two more sites......
http://www.pctoday.com/editorial/hardware/970817.html?guid=rqahjmy0
http://user.glo.be/~erikd/dae_hitachi8330.htm

and another site was displaying this chart:

---------------------------------------------------------
The models which support DAE:
(Sorted by DAE speed, data speed and model)

CD-ROM model..............................DAE.....Data...Interface
---------------------------------------------------------
PLEXTOR..CD-ROM PX-32TS..........16x.....16x....SCSI
TEAC.....CD-524E...........................14x.....24x....IDE
CREATIVE.CD620E..........................12x.....5x.....IDE
PIONEER..CD-ROM DR-A04S..........11x.....32x....IDE
PIONEER..CD-ROM DR-U12X..........10x.....12x....SCSI
HITACHI..CDR-8330........................9x......24x....IDE
SONY.....CD-ROM CDU711...............9x......14x....IDE

------------------------------------------------------------

unfortunately all these infos i managed to gather (lots of google surfing involved...) didnt help me much
as i feel a bit lost with all the values involved...
you might be so kind as to find some spare time and have a look at
those links and maybe make some sense of it all.......
I cant.......

I have been trying for the last 30 days to encode tracks but the final result is always the same ::::::::::::: very poor. very distorted and jumpy mp3s.......i have changed many different configurations of both CD and MP3 settings of several different encoders..AUDIOGRABBER, CDEX, MUSICMATCH, ZLURP, MP3PRODUCER, FREERIP, to name a few.....but
unfortunately no good results ever. All i managed to understand by those links i gave you before is that my cd rom drive SUPPORTS DAE
(thank GOD) but I also know my CD rom Drive HITACHI 8330 firmware 0007 is OLD and with some limitations for CD extraction and for my model SIA is not accurate...
I have learnt all this from this page of
another ripping sofware called ZLURP
http://www.zlurp.com/zlurp/cdrom
Please check it out..it shows how Hitachi8330 SIA is "not accurate".......... so i know i have to keep changing the jitter correction values to get good mp3 encoding............

I have also tested the encoded files with MP3tester and these are the results
...just to show you a couple of the many configurations i have used

Testing
ID3v1 found: The Wake (IQ)
First frame invalid
Resync: 626 Bytes at 0 (0%)
192kbit, 44100hz, Stereo, Crc: No
Frames: 9006
Errors: 1 (0,02%)
-- NOT OK --
Done.

Testing
ID3v1 found: The Wake (IQ)
First frame invalid
Resync: 417 Bytes at 0 (0%)
128kbit, 44100hz, Joint Stereo, Crc: No
Frames: 9006
Errors: 1 (0,02%)
-- NOT OK --
Done.

I am sorry about my ignorance but I can keep changing jitter settings
for months an still without getting the right results...I am desperate..........
I dont know if u can help me achieving CDquality
encoded MP3 with my drive ??????????
Maybe you tell me i should buy a new drive but unfortunately at
the moment i cant afford it......What can i do?
I am in your hands MP3 MOGUL,
thanks for all your help
i do appreciate reading you
speak u soon hopefully
ciao
Claudio

WINDOWS 98 SE
Pentium 200Mhz (I know..i need more power...)
RAM 96MB

Perhaps you can pick up a second hand "used" drive at a very reasonable price???? It does seem after reading the postings, that your drive is not going to be able to handle MP3 encoding.
