glazenuts69 -> Doom III trouble, help!!! (8/5/2004 9:32:48 PM)

Everyone,

I got my copy in the mail today. I tried to back it Disc 1 with no luck. Here's what I found, and have tried.
Protection ID by Killer v.3.5=Safedisc 3.20.022
I tried Alcohol 1.9.2 Build 1705 the safe disc 2/3 profile, 4x read max write. It wouldn't let me lower the write speed.

I tried Clone CD 4.3.1.7 read/Alcohol write.
any help is appreciated.....

As of today, I have yet to hear of anyone making a successful backup of this game. The closest you'll get is by making an image with Alcohol, then mounting it with Deamon Tools. SD V3.2 is a tough one. It is very hardware dependant. I've also heard a lot of media will be the cause of failure. Using a Toshiba SD-R5002 with Memorex CD-RWs should work for SD V3.2. Besides that, I don't have any other specific drives that'll do it. Good luck, and if you have a successful burn, let us know so others may benefit.

The ISO's are small enough, so why not just burn them each to a CD as a file and mount them in Daemon Tools from there. Or, you could burn them all to a DVD and not have to keep track of 3 discs.

Yes the newest SafeDisc builds defeat almost all old/new chipsets, meaning no 100% working backups can be available, let us know if you find something else

Guardian -> RE: Doom III trouble, help!!! (8/14/2004 4:40:08 PM)

Oh by the way..

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum :)

I suppose if theres enough people intrested in backing up their Doom III cd's that I could whip up a tutorial.

CD speed doesnt matter to much however since its a PC game, PSX and PS2 especially are sensitive to burning speeds higher then 4X

I myself was trying to get some information on how to back up my PS2 DVDs as they are no longer being delt with in a adult fasion and this could leave me with a loss of assets.

But anyways like I said, if theres enough people intrested in this topic I'll do somthing about it. As for now I can be reached at ********* or on MSN thru that same email and please make you self known befor you ask me questions, till then TTFN

Just one thing though we do not allow personal contact details to be posted on the forum for security reasons. If anyone wants to contact you they can by clicking on your user name and sending you an e-mail or PM you !!! [:)]
But I am sure there are many people wanting to know how you backed it up and what you used so why don't you post a detailed walkthrough on how to do it !!! [:)]

I got it to work just fine, using the setting stated by guardian on another thread, using alcohol with a SONY DRU-500A used to read and write at 4x, installed game from backed up cd on a pioneer dvd-120s and it worked ok, installed on another two computers and it worked just fine, i used nero to backed up cd 2 and 3 and was actualling backing up while installing from cd 1, i did have to disable emulation on alcohol and hide cdr on clonecd

Jito463 -> RE: Doom III trouble, help!!! (10/1/2004 8:22:52 AM)

I have also backed up Doom3 as well as PoP - The Sands Of Time (both SD 3.2) using two different burners. An LG GSA-4120B and a LiteOn SOHW-1633S. Read the images at 4x (probably didn't need to, but wanted to be safe) and burned back at 8x. Using RiTek media, I was able to backup on either one. Using Harmony Gold media (CMC Magnetics) I was only able to backup on the LiteOn.

Just so everyone knows, the newest version of CloneCD is having a lot of success with Safedisc 3.2. Just use the Protected CD profile for copying.

Jito463 -> RE: Doom III trouble, help!!! (10/1/2004 8:30:20 AM)

We've been discussing that on the Alcohol forums. Seems that CCD5 uses emulation in the background, similar to how BW works. It's there, it just doesn't tell you it's there.

http://forum.alcohol-soft.com/index.php?showtopic=14001

Is the topic we're discussing it in. I believe page 8 is where we got into the CCD5 discussion.

vbguru_12000 -> RE: Doom III trouble, help!!! (10/1/2004 8:32:01 AM)

Yes, I was aware of that. But either way, it still works better than anything else. Someone even edited the profile, turning off the emulation options and it still worked better than any other program out at the moment.
