Halcyon -> RE: ASUS DRW-1604P first impressions (7/26/2004 3:39:35 PM)

Interesting. Is that a rebranded one or is it Asus' own design?

happyperoil -> RE: ASUS DRW-1604P first impressions (7/27/2004 10:07:16 AM)

does this drive set the book type of DL medias?

emperor -> RE: ASUS DRW-1604P first impressions (7/27/2004 10:29:01 AM)

Yes the drive sets the DVD+R DL booktype to DVD-ROM by default, however doesn't support booktype for +R/+RW media

kogos -> RE: ASUS DRW-1604P first impressions (7/27/2004 11:18:52 AM)

since the asus drive uses the new D63635 chipset from NEC, it is most likely that we will see a new DL 4X drive from NEC soon!!!

emperor -> RE: ASUS DRW-1604P first impressions (7/27/2004 11:41:41 AM)

Lets hope that soon NEC will officially announce it [:)]

digitaldoc -> RE: ASUS DRW-1604P first impressions (7/27/2004 12:08:05 PM)

Like the Pioneer 16x, the 12x write is much longer than the 16x which is a very short portion at the end. I doubt the total write is faster than the Plextor 712. Still seems like a decent drive, just not much at 16x.

emperor -> RE: ASUS DRW-1604P first impressions (7/27/2004 12:17:30 PM)

Correct, the 12X is faster than the 16X and much slower than the Plextor PX-712A, of course we would have to see its writing quality...

aviationwiz -> RE: ASUS DRW-1604P first impressions (7/27/2004 8:57:59 PM)

And remember when everyone said Plextor was nuts for going to 12x instead of straight to 16x. [8|]

emperor -> RE: ASUS DRW-1604P first impressions (7/27/2004 9:31:49 PM)

True! For sure 12X P-CAV is much faster than 16X Z-CLV

After sometime, here is a brief supported media list:

DVD-R

Verbatm 8X-R MCC 02RG20 ->12X
TY 8X-R TYG02 ->12X
Maxell 8X -R -> 16X

DVD+R
Philips 8X+R PHILIPS C08 ->8X
Optodisc 8X+R OPTODISCOR8 ->8X
Maxell 8X+R MAXELL 002 ->12X
TY 8X+R YUDEN000T02 ->16X
Intenso 8X +R PRODISC R03 -> 8X
TraxData 8X +R RITEK R03->12X

Note that the above speeds taken from DVDInfoPro without any burning tests...Its rather dissapointing also that some 8X/16X +R rated media supported only at 4X, it seems that ASUS needs work at the firmware[:)]
