crazyfun -> WarCraft 3 Burning Question (10/9/2002 5:13:09 AM)

I choosed to burn it using Alcohol 120% for efficienty reasons, but now I wonder: what if "Ignore Reading Errors" is checked (make it unable to read sub channel from disk while writing image), is that wrong or ok?

Also, what if my CD burner support everything but that my CD reader is a LG (and doesn't show to support anything, but doesn't say it doesn't), can I read from my burner and write from it to and be able to read it from a normal cd reader?

Thanks ;)

Yes. Just use the Securom New profile in alcohol and read it with your burner. You should be able to read the copies in any reader as long as your burner can read full subchannel data.

To answer myself nor anyone who wonders the same, you really need to do so ;)

While reading with same options but from my burner I noticed the RAW + Sub96 tag appearing instead of "Cannot read sub channels". Of what I understood, you need to read the sub channels, so if you have to, read from your burner.

Also, it seems to be smoother than when I used my CD reader, sounds like it's going to work now ;)

Newly-Discovered TO-KNOW TIPS:

Mostly all Lite-Ons are supported as Raw+Sub96 but one of them listed on the CloneCd web site.

Using Alcohol 120% gives you more infos about your burning, and is a lil easier to control than other similar tools.

Can someone PLEASE send me an email with a full walkthrough (for an idiot) on how to rip/burn WArcraft 3? I use Fireburner to rip and Adaptec to burn, which is probably my first mistake. If anyone can give me a palce to get good tools, you can email those links to me as well. This would me greatly appreciated!

One_Winged_Angel@antisocial.com is my email.

_Raziel_,

Use Alcohol 120% with the *Securom NEW* settings to read/write Warcraft3 to CD-R. You'll need a burner that can read more than read Subchannel Data fully, because my Pioneer DVD-106s which reads up to 16bytes subchannel creates a partial-working backup, while my full 96bytes reading Liteon LTR-40125W creates 100% working backups.

Remember though, that even a 100% successful copy will require using CloneCD's "Hide CD-R Media" feature to play it from a CD-RW drive; there is no way around this.

If playing the game from a reader, however, you won't have any problems at all if it's burned correctly.

Actually, Lite-On recorders (some of) aren't reliable subs readers and this is the first step of the trouble. You should use a reliable subchannel reader, like a Plex/Yamaha/Teac/Asus etc. I think LTD-163(D)/5H is also good.

@ _Raziel_,

Go to www.elby.ch and d/l CloneCD. That is a good start. You will have 30 days to decide (I think) before you must buy (well worth it) or deleate it.
Tell us what CD/DVD-ROM's/CD-R/RW drives you have too.

I was able to copy both WC3 and UT2003 with my LiteOn 24210B(firmware S07) using CloneCD 4.0.1.10. The copy runs on all readers I've testet so far(Pioneer A05/6, LiteOn 163/165, Plextor, even LG and Sanyo!). So what's so sticky about this protection?

Nothing. Just that alot of people have been producing weak images, with poor subchannel data readers. This version of SecuROM found on WC3 requires a dead accurate subs reader, some Lite-On's in particular aren't up to it.

As for the latest SecuROM (UT2k3 etc), even drives which can read subs data 96 bytes, P-W and write RAW-DAO/96 100% perfect can't produce a working backup, nothing can at this point in time, (not even L.A.'s "SUPER-DRIVE YAMI CRW-F1"). Seems newest SecuROM is recognising CD-R/RW back-ups by looking/analysing the physical characteristics of CD-R/RW's compared to the special glass mastered discs the original game is on.

BTW, LTR-24102B *CANNOT* produce working back-ups of UT2003 that work anywhere, no drive can. Unless you have burned a c r a c k e d/patched/hacked ISO (image) or applied some sort of patch or similar, in which case doesn't count.
