Dan Allis -> Recovering bad flashed NEC ND-1300a drives (5/3/2004 7:46:48 PM)

I trust someone will be able to give me some guidance on a problem I've experience with my dvd burner.

I have a NEC ND-1300a dvd burner.

I wanted to update the firmware to obtain the maximum performance of the unit.

So, I contact NEC about firmware. I'm from Colorado Springs, Colorada USA. I attempted to contact NEC/USA but they never responded. However, NEC/UK responded promptly and graciously. They suggested that I update my unit with firmware "1.0A" from their website. They said it was universal and would work just fine on my unit.

However, when updating the firmware, I got an "error message" and the task froze up. The unit is now non-operative.

Can anyone help? Are there any remedies or solutions to this problem. I have a new unit that's basically useless right now.

Please let me know if there's anything I can do. I've heard of so called "patches" or "fixes" to firmware disasters.

Thanks!

Through a process of talking with different folks, I found a succesful fix to recover a bad flash with the NED ND-1300a.

The user can download the DOS flash version and install it to a boot disk and it will restore the drive.

The NEC/UK website is: www.necd.de/softwareoverview2.php/id/557/lang/ENG

Their firmware update will work just fine with U.S. versions. I know some folks have had questions regarding that.

The process was simple and painless. Now, I've revived my drive and with the latest firmware.
