Leviathan -> MP3 Problem (5/2/2004 3:02:58 PM)

I've just updated my system from win98 to XP SP1 and i face the following problem. Most of my Mp3 that used to play normally with WIN98, now don't play at all. Although they are recognized as MP3, when I click on the properties->summary label many information like origin and audio are missing.

The few MP3 that are still playable, in the origin box of the summary label it writes <Protected : NO>

Are my non-playable MP3 protected and if yes what I can do to unlock them?
Is this a WINXP issue and if yes is there a patch correcting the problem?

Hmm strange problem, have you tried to playback those MP3 files with Windows Media Player?

Sounds like digital rights management (DRM) issue. Have you downloaded the MP3s from the web?

Leviathan -> RE: MP3 Problem (5/3/2004 3:42:57 PM)

This seems logical Tony, since i have downloaded the MP3 files from the web. Is there any way to disable the DRM protection? (other than going back to win98 again)

I don't know if it's forbitten to download MP3, but I surely know that it is forbidden ... hehe :P

If you know any other way to get MP3 other than from the web, I would be glad to hear it.

I agrre with minos about paying for music instead getting it for free, because nowadays you get nothing for free so why not paying for music ?
On the other hand here in Greece bacuse of piracy and the matters about free downloaded music, music CDs are cheaper but still expensive

Leviathan -> RE: MP3 Problem (5/4/2004 5:49:10 AM)

Somebody gave the MP3 as a gift to me. If it's illegal then I should turn the gift back ... [8D]

Just to remind you gentlemen this is not the topic of this thread. Read again the first reply and if you know the answer click on the reply [:)]

On the other hand CDRInfo's forum has the best operators in the web, so they decide what's apropriate or not.

Jimmys -> RE: MP3 Problem (5/4/2004 7:26:35 AM)

Is the total file size proper ?
Do you have any audio authoring software ?if so you could try to load the files and see what happens

Leviathan -> RE: MP3 Problem (5/4/2004 7:44:01 AM)

The file sizes are correct. This is not a file format problem. This is why my MP3 play normal on WIN 98 system. So something is going on with the XP. Do you have in mind of any admin service that disables the file protection?

In case this is an NTFS issue how can I change the properties of the NTFS file system?

Jimmys -> RE: MP3 Problem (5/4/2004 8:04:17 AM)

a lot of things you can find if you give
start-run-gpedit.msc

I don't think that is a protection issue although
you can alternativly email me an mp3 so i could check it

Jimmys -> RE: MP3 Problem (5/4/2004 1:15:43 PM)

check out this
maybe it will work for you
All Media Fixer Pro v2.5 (c) NewLive Software

Leviathan -> RE: MP3 Problem (5/5/2004 4:59:45 PM)

The All Media Fixer doesn't fix my problem. Although it recognizes the files and indicates that it is fixing them, I face the same effect. When I try to play an MP3 in Winamp, Media Player or Musicmatch Box nothing happens and the player crashes.

Any other suggestions?

MP3Mogul -> RE: MP3 Problem (5/5/2004 6:08:47 PM)

First, to let you know, it is still "Illegal" for someone to "GIVE" you an MP3 unless he personally wrote the song, personally played ALL THE INSTRUMENTS in the song, personally RECORDED the song, and personally promoted and distributed the song. Basically no one can give you an MP3 and it be legal, this is why DRM was developed.
