Lower speeds for cremation won't help since the 32x is still causing E32 errors when written at 24x and 16x speed. Maybe the real low speeds will do. But then again it is optimised for 32x for most recorders so I don't think that this is the sollution.

eddy2 -> RE: CMC bad?? (9/28/2002 8:18:53 PM)

the vernbatim branded cmc discs seem ok, but maybe theyre the best quality discs cmc make!

Graffitti -> RE: CMC bad?? (9/28/2002 9:26:59 PM)

What're the ATIPs for them Imation ones?

Xelarator -> RE: CMC bad?? (9/29/2002 2:18:36 AM)

I have recieved info about the AT&T branded Verbatim 24x they are selling at best buy for $9.99 and 1.99 with rebates.. Well here is the infO:

ATIP: 97m 26s 66f
Disc Manufacturer: CMC Magnetics Corp.
Reflective layer: Dye (Short strategy; e.g. Phthalocyanine)
Media type: CD-Recordable
Recording Speeds: min. unknown - max. unknown
nominal Capacity: 702.83MB (79m 59s 74f / LBA: 359849)

Ahh..i wished Verbatim atleast used MetalAZO..not too much to ask :(. I hope AT&T knows what kind of product they are co-branding.

Graffitti -> RE: CMC bad?? (9/29/2002 2:27:01 AM)

Judging from the ATIP, OWSC'll probably lock these in at 24x. Can anyone care to confirm or deny this?

Right now, there're 2 sources from where AT&T is getting their blanks from. Ritek, and CMC. Ritek has the gray bottom and styrofoam filler on the top, while the CMC're black with plastic ring fillers. they're 32x, 24x respectively.

Laffin is reporting that he's having a lot of coasters with the Riteks, but I just tested some fresh AT&T riteks that I got today and they burned fine. The other Ritek that I tried were some old 16x rated one, and they developed some errors after the 70min mark.

MP3Mogul -> RE: CMC bad?? (9/29/2002 4:25:49 PM)

I too have problems with the Ritek's, as Laffin. They are not a problem with my 3200 burner, or other burner's that I have tried, it's just a firmware issue with the CRW-F1. I understand that firmware 1.0d will fix this, as a few other disc T@2 goodies!

Dolphinius_Rex -> RE: CMC bad?? (9/29/2002 9:51:09 PM)

RJW: How can you tell if the errors are E32? I run Nero ScanDisc on my CDs and I never get more then 2% damaged (and that's RARE!) and I don't get ANY unreadable blocks EVER (unless I scratch the disk first....but usually I still only get damaged and not unreadable). Please correct me if I'm wrong, but don't E32 errors fall under the "unreadable" error classification on Scan Disc?

I also am un-impressed with Riteks these days, I've actually had a couple of bad burns with them, and I haven't had that happen with ANY other type of CD-R in the last 2 years or so (other then through my own stupidity of course!)

Graffitti -> RE: CMC bad?? (9/29/2002 10:22:10 PM)

Which brand of Riteks're giving the problematic burns with the F1?

MP3Mogul -> RE: CMC bad?? (9/30/2002 1:00:47 AM)

The Riteks that I have are unbranded.

Dolphinius_Rex -> RE: CMC bad?? (9/30/2002 1:02:46 AM)

The Ritek's I'm having problems with are the 90min+ Riteks (factory Direct-unbranded), and my burner is the LiteON 40125S

Graffitti -> RE: CMC bad?? (9/30/2002 1:03:32 AM)

they wouldn't happen to have an atip of 97m 15s 17f

would they?

If you look at your other post you will see I have already given you an answer and told you exactly what the 97m 15s 17f were !!![:(]
And no mine are not them !!!

Dolphinius_Rex -> RE: CMC bad?? (9/30/2002 1:24:33 AM)

nope, my Ritek 90min+ CD-Rs have an ATIP of 96m 43s 37f
at least I HOPE these are Ritek, I can't find any software that'll tell me either (ARGH!), but our supplier said they were Ritek....

o_O

yeah... you know what.. I think we already deteremined that the 15s17f of riteks works with the F1, and that I actually have them, and that I actually know they belong to ritek cause I ran an cdrid on them.. now mmm.. what I'm interested in is some detailed information on the ones that doesn't work.

O_o

Laffin Assassin -> RE: CMC bad?? (9/30/2002 1:49:28 AM)

[:D] So all of a sudden your an Expert LOL [:D]

Graffitti -> RE: CMC bad?? (9/30/2002 2:10:18 AM)

no.... I didn't say that anywhere. Did I?

I just wanted to have some more insight on which exact ritek doesn't work cause I too have a CRW-F1 and want to know so I can avoid them.
