Samurai_49 -> How to Burn a Working copy of Warcraft 3? (9/13/2002 7:54:08 AM)

Okay, after making 2 coasters, I had finally pinned down the method of making a perfect 1:1 copy. Now, you must have a drive that enables you to read sub channel data (like Toshiba DVD Drive), a burner that enables you to write sub channel data and does not automatic correct any read errors, the latest version of Clony XXL 2.006, and last but not least, CloneCD version 4.011. Now, you must first install the game into your harddrive, let's say "C" drive. Then leave the cd inside your Toshiba drive, and open Clony XXL. Have Clony "Scan" your CD-rom, right the way it will ask you to "Start" the game and then hit OK. Leave the Clony window without closing it, double click on your WarCraft 3 icon to start the game. As soon as it starts, you will hear a sound produced by Clony confirming that it has found the protection. Now, shut down the game of Warcraft and go back to Clony. By now, it has showed you what type of protection it is using (Securom New) and that sub channel data for program data and audio must be read in different speed. Do not change any of those settings and go and click on CloneCD button. After CloneCD starts, again, leave all settings alone and make sure it is set to Clony instead of Game setting. Now, go ahead and ask your drive to read the cd to image file. When finish, close all programs and re-open CloneCD, then ask it to write the image file to your blank CD without changing any default settings. Once finished, you will have a working copy of Warcraft 3. Good luck and may the druid be with you!!

Laffin, I asked you about it and you said to find the posting on the forum. Well, I couldn't find it!! Luckily, I was able to make a copy by trials and errors. Anyway, here we are.........

Laffin Assassin -> RE: How to Burn a Working copy of Warcraft 3? (9/19/2002 12:45:15 AM)

Well I am Pleased you came to the same Solution that I posted it does prove that it worked !!![:)]

SinfulContortion -> RE: How to Burn a Working copy of Warcraft 3? (9/21/2002 2:44:38 AM)

Hey, here's something funny...I ended up with a lot coasters, trying the Clony method, then just trying CloneCD with everything checked off, and then trying Nero with everything checked off. Mind you, this was all using an HP dvd100i for both reading and writing.
I didn't try the Clony and CloneCD coasters with this, but with the Nero one, which didn't work in the dvd100i, which I decided to test in this crappy old CD drive, worked!
I think that because the drive was so damn old, it wasn't even able to pick up any kind of inconsistency in the copying, and W3 had no choice but to load! Someone else try this out and let me know!

Samurai_49 -> RE: How to Burn a Working copy of Warcraft 3? (9/21/2002 2:59:31 AM)

Sinful, do you mind posting details on exactly how you make the perfect copy with Nero please? I found it fascinating that you could do it without using CloneCD and Clony. I would like to know your set up in details and the type of programs you used (versions and settings)? Thanks!!!!

SinfulContortion -> RE: How to Burn a Working copy of Warcraft 3? (9/21/2002 5:22:52 AM)

Well, I used Nero 5.5.8.0, and chose CD Copy...
In the Read options tab, I checked off Read media catalog number and ISRC (slower), and Ignore illegal TOC type. Under Data tracks, I set it to Continue copying when reading unreadable data. In Data mode 1, I checked off Force raw reading, and on errors to write uncorrected, and did the same for Data mode 2. For Audio tracks, I checked off Read audio data with sub channel, and Ignore read errors.
Under the Burn tab, I set the Write Method to Disc-At-Once/96.
Now, mind you, with all these settings, it did NOT work properly when I tried to run W3 with it in the HP DVD Writer 100i drive (which I used both to create the image and burn the CD). Strangely enough however, W3 DID work when I ran it from this old crappy CD-ROM drive I have, which is a Sony CD-ROM CDU611. It's gotta be because the damn thing is too old to recognize small differences in CDs, therefore causing W3 to just make due with what it's got!
I dunno, totally strange, but it's true.

Oh, and here are my stats:
Anthon XP 1700+
256MB RAM
HP DVD100i
Sony CDU611
80GB HD
GeForce2 440 64MB

Peace.

Sinful,
That is some weird result. But, hey, you got a working copy and that's what counts. Good Burning!!

How do I copy WarCraft III[?] I tried ClonyXXL and it says there is no protection.

Blackfoot -> RE: How to Burn a Working copy of Warcraft 3? (10/4/2002 6:56:50 PM)

If the ClonyXXL/CloneCD4 method is either too complicated for you or doesn't produce a working backup (didn't for me), download Alcohol-Burner from http://www.alcohol-software.com.

Used Securom *NEW* settings for read/write, read with my Lite-On LTR-40125W, wrote with my Lite-On LTR-40125W, all at max speed. Works like a charm.

Remember though, to play the game in a cd-rw drive you'll need to use the "Hide-CDR Media" function of CloneCD, but in readers it runs without incident.

Toastie -> RE: How to Burn a Working copy of Warcraft 3? (10/26/2002 11:21:02 PM)

I tried some of the things posted here and none of them worked with my Lite-On 24x40x10x drive. But I did stumble upon a way to get it to work. I had created an image file through CloneCD (latest version as of 10/15/02), but burning from that image wouldn't work. I installed and tried Alcohol Burner 120% as suggested, and that didn't work either. I loaded the image file I created with CloneCD into the virtual CD drive that Alcohol Burner 120% creates, and that worked like a charm. I'm up and running with my backup "CD" of WC3. Hope it helps others.

SloBurn -> RE: How to Burn a Working copy of Warcraft 3? (11/6/2002 12:35:51 AM)

Heya guys. Well I have a Ricoh MP7240A which normally manages to burn most things fine. But i've tried pretty much all the ideas you guys came up with and ended up with 6 coasters. I'm stumped, I don't know what to do now....

rclayton17 -> RE: How to Burn a Working copy of Warcraft 3? (11/8/2002 7:42:07 AM)

I have not yet tried to make a back up of war, but i will try soon.
I don't know if this helps or not but I found this on another forum:

"To get a burned copy of WC3 to work, use Clony XXL and Clone cd to make the copy. Also, you MUST burn at 1x and use amplify weak sector, and read subchannel data. Any faster than 1x, will result in your cd rom not being able to read it, since blizzard made it so sensitive. Hope that helps."

I just think it would be so cool to make a working backup of war3 :P

Well I guess i will try it at 1x cuz i dont want to make another coaster. "regenerate data sectors" is checked. Is that correct?

rclayton17 -> RE: How to Burn a Working copy of Warcraft 3? (11/8/2002 8:14:39 AM)

i just made a clonecd image of war3 using the clonyxxl settings, but i checked "amplify weak sectors" or whatever...

Using daemon tools, war3 started up... does this mean that if i burn the image it will be a working copy?

Tron -> RE: How to Burn a Working copy of Warcraft 3? (11/8/2002 8:40:27 AM)

It might, what burner do you have?

rclayton17 -> RE: How to Burn a Working copy of Warcraft 3? (11/8/2002 9:28:49 PM)

i have an HP 9300i

it's about 2 yrs old, and max burn speed is 10X... just to give you an idea
