This has been an interesting subject that occupies many users. We ourselfs faced that issue and at least we found a solution ONLY for ADAPTEC SCSI cards. The problems is the build-in WinXP drivers for the following products

Adaptec SCSI Card 19160
Adaptec SCSI Card 29160
Adaptec SCSI Card 29160LP
Adaptec SCSI Card 29160N
Adaptec SCSI Card 39160
