lakerssuperman -> Sd2 backups (8/25/2001 12:22:36 AM)

how come it takes so long to make a complete image with clone cd of a sd2 disc. I have a TDK 24x10x40 and an old Acer 4x4x32. Neither reads it very fast. They seem to sit there. I want to extract the image and use beta blocker on it but i can get the image. any suggestions or am I just f***ed

You must not be using intelligent bad sector scanner, it can screw up copies anyway. wait out the problem you might think it will take 100 days to make a copy but it normally takes 45minutes to an hour (it goes faster after all of the bad sectors

john -> RE: Sd2 backups (8/25/2001 11:43:08 AM)

Yes i know. Both drives are very slow upon skipping bad sectors

well iam planning on purchasing a plextor 24 writer....it can make perfect SDv2 backups since it has correct efm encoding right??...so my question is iam going to be using the latest clonecd what will be the settings for clone??? fast error skip or intelligent bad sector skip and what is the difference???

ambition should never exceed talent

nicki98.freeserve.co.uk -> RE: Sd2 backups (8/26/2001 6:34:54 AM)

you only need fast error skip for sd2.
leave everything else alone

vango44 -> RE: Sd2 backups (8/26/2001 10:49:31 AM)

Just use "fast error skip" and if you suspect it might have sub-data, select that also(it won't hurt if there isn't any). CloneCD does a good job of picking the correct fast error skip settings for you so just leave them. My Toshiba DVD is set at 3 retries and hardware correction and works fine. Intelligent bad sector scanner is for Laserlock protected disks.
The new Plextor24x will make a 1:1 back-up of SD2 disks but is much slower at reading them than older Plextors(I've heard it can take an hour).
There's an excellent review at this site!

arklab -> RE: Sd2 backups (8/30/2001 4:28:08 AM)

If you are short on money, you might want to check out Lite-On 24X.
I'm happy with mine.

It's the ONLY other drive with ALL CloneCD stuff supported, including DAO RAW write simulation (which Plextor dosen't).

(UPDATE - there are orher drives which can - see

How about LiteOn LTR-12101B?

arklab -> RE: Sd2 backups (9/2/2001 12:59:17 AM)

Nope, not that one ether.

ONLY the Plextor and LITE-ON 24X drives.

PERIOD!

THIS POST WAS WORNG! (spelling intentional)

See
http://elby.org/CloneCD/english/index.htm

for drives which support correct EMF.

Actually, the LTR-12102B works just fine with SD2, but unfortunately not available in North America...

netwiz01 -> RE: Sd2 backups (9/6/2001 1:31:58 AM)

I disagree. The Plextor PX-W124TS can do SD2. I have done it with both NOLF and Madden 2002. This drive is Plextor's best. I use firmware 1.07. It makes perfect CD. Total image time took just over 6 Min to send to HD and 6 Min to send image back to blank CD. This Plextor drive works great.

If someone says it won't burn SD2 they are wrong. I have had success with it on all SD2 software. Again a whole CD start to finish 12 Min. That is much better than the new Plextors 24X LOL......Plextor cheated most of its users with its new model, then did not do a good job with the new one, mabey they will fix some of the issues in a firmware. For now the Plextor PX-W124TS is its best model for burning!!!!!!!!

baxman -> RE: Sd2 backups (9/6/2001 5:56:11 AM)

Well netwiz01, you don't seem to have tested the Plex 2410 with the new firmware 1.01, have You?

My reading of OP Flashpoint (SD2 protection) original CD took 4 minutes and I burned the image in 3 minutes and 40 seconds, a total copy time of 8 minutes not lazy 12! ;-)

Does your copys work in other drives or does it only work in your plex drive?

A//

netwiz01 -> RE: Sd2 backups (9/6/2001 11:25:20 AM)

My copy works in both drives. That a good burn speed, but the only problem I have is that it really does not burn twice as fast as their 12X its more of an 18X since I produce copies in 12 Min and you produce them in just over 7 Min. Does not appear worth the upgrade. Like I said I can burn anything and everything. And what is most impressive is my plextor is not equipted with BurnProof technology. I still get perfect CD's. I am not talking bad about the Plextor 24X, but for me a difference in 5 Min in time for burning a CD is not worth the $250.00 price to upgrade to it..
