Hi all,
Great site, vey infomative and well set out. I enjoyed the article of the 4816a reveiw and the writing quality article. I have been trying to use Imation 40x disk with my burner, the Asus 4816a v1.00, which is no good, as per my findings and John's reveiw, I have also tried using Digi Media Black Cds, don't know who makes them. I get around 300 C1 errors as reported by nero cd speed, I have tried the imation discs in a friends 24x liteon and he got 6000 C1 errors around the 15 minute mark and a few lots of around 2000. The digi media crapped out at the 3minute mark, totally stop playing on my panasonic stereo and DVD player. Anyway I am after some TY discs, or can you recommend any of the other 48x discs approved by Asus John? Ie. TDk, Ritek, Nan Ya, Acer, LeadData, CMC Kodak, Mitsui and Prodisc are mentioned in the user manual for 48x burning, have you tried any of these others with the 4816a? Anyway, I am in Australia, and the TY are very hard to find, my best chance is to try and get some from the states. Also is there a program to find out which company manufactured the discs? Also to get a better C1 and C2 error graph, as per your tests John. I have been forced to record at 8x Not happy after paying for a 48x. Anyway, any of your suggestions would be greatly appreceiated.

I run a AMD K6-3/400 128Mb WinXP with Nero 5.5.8.0 and CloneCD4, both screw the discs. I don't have any buffer transfer problems, DMA enabled, Via 4in1 v1.34? i think. Not the latest but they are above the standard XP drivers. Hope you can help.

Unfortunaly, we have already mentioned that ASUS 48X media support is very limited and many media types will not be written correctly. We have pointed this to ASUS but so far nothing has come up (meaning a new firmware). This drive shows that speed is not everything as many people tend to believe...

I cannot suggest anything else than checking the media tests, where we saw which media type worked better than others. As far i remember TY was one of the best performs. You may find TY with another name in your local region. Clint maybe help you where you can find TY in Australia.

Yes there is. Try CDR Indentifier of also CD-R ATIP Reader (under Software->CD Related)

Visit www.cdrinfo.com - The Recording Authority

Thanks for the info on the CD manufacturer detection software, I'll await Clint's reply, or is is OK to email him directly?

Yeah, unfortunately I only know of 1 place to get TY discs, which is at www.gamedude.com The brand it is under is "Thats" CD-R discs.

Unfortinately, TY discs are about as scarce as Yamaha CRW-F1 recorders here...
