Is The Athlon XP processor good for encode/decode vcd/svcd/divx/mp3??
Had anybody expereince??

With the Athlon XP, you have SSE instruction support (Pentium 3 class instructions) - but it may be better to select "3DNow" optimizations if the application has them, since this is the "native" multimedia-optimized instruction set for the Athlon.

For Athlon Thunderbird (No SSE capability) - 3DNow support is even more beneficial.

i have a 1600 xp and to convert a 2 hr movie to vcd it takes approx 1 hr 45 min. Thats converting to pal.

sorry forgot to add that that is using tmpeg with win 200 pro (which i found is much better for all kinds of encoding and decoding)

If you want a machine for encoding wait for the AMD Hammerhead.
it is a 3.2 gig chip which should fly through the prossess
