I'm having some frustrating intermittent problems with the Philips CDD4801 drive that's in my Presario desktop. I've updated the firmware to v2.5 but the drive still is not consistently recognized when I boot my computer. Here's the deal:
1. When I restart or boot up I see a flashing vertical white rectangle in the upper right corner of my screen and then I'll get a black screen that tells me that my computer has been updated - and will show my scsi ids (hard drive, dvd drive, cd drive, etc.), but, the Philips drive is sometimes there and sometimes not.
2. Often, I'll get an inifinite loop of the above scenerio until finally, by some magic, the drive is recognized and the boot successful, or, windows gives up on trying to recognize and starts up with the drive dead.
Am I having a hardware failure, or, is this software? Any insights or tips? Please, please, please. Thanks! Eric
Thanks! Here it is ...

Name and models of Drives

E:\Compaq DVD-ROM DV 5700B (internal)
F:\Philips CDD4801 (internal)
G:\Iomega USB Zip Drive (external)
H:\Mitsumi CR 4802TE (QueDrive) (external)
I:\BackPack USB External HD (external)
I'm uncertain on how to identify the Primary/Secondary Slaves
What Motherboard and Operating System are you using
Windows ME
Pentium III processor
[unsure on how to find the motherboard]

Hi Eric
Sorry Mate I Was leaving your problem for stefsom to sort out but it looks like he isn't bothered and with him just saying " Configure the philips cdd4801 as master " without telling you to alter the other drives would have caused you even more problems so now I will try and help

Right the First thing to try is to dissconnect ALL your External drives ie:-
G:\Iomega USB Zip Drive (external)
H:\Mitsumi CR 4802TE (QueDrive) (external)
I:\BackPack USB External HD (external)
and re-boot and see if you are still getting the same Problem and then let me know as soon as you can what is happening and we will then start to find out what is causing the conflict !!!!

Laffin Assassin -> RE: Philips PCRW804 (8/12/2002 12:08:06 PM)

Hi iamchy
I suggest you flash the firmware again as the ASPI FIX will not cause this problem you are now having it is usually down to a bad Flash of the Firmware !!!

Puuhis -> RE: Philips PCRW804 (8/19/2002 12:55:09 AM)

Hello!

I am also having some problems with my PCRW804. I am runing easy cd creator 5 platinum version on win XP, but when I try to burn to a cd-rw disc, it is only possible to select burn speed at 2X, even though the recorder should be able to burn at 4x. Does anybody know what I should do? I have the firmware version 2.1, do you think I should do an upgrade and my problems would be history?

Thx!

Puuhis!

Hi Puuhis
Well I would suggest that you check if you have DMA enabled on your Writer but on saying that an Upgrade would do no harm !!!
