A group of developers has posted a project on the crowdfunding website Indiegogo to raise money for a project that should bring CD, DVD and Blu-ray burning to Android devices. The project called Open MAPI should make it possible to connect an external USB burner to an Android device and burn to the disc using an app.MAPI is an abbreviation for Image Mastering Application Programming and is a common name on Windows systems where it deals with CD and and recording in e.g. Windows Media Player and Windows Movie Maker.myce-android-open-mapiFor this project the developers try to raise 88,000 for the development of an open source version of MAPI for the Android operating system. It will work with devices that support OTG something that will likely become a default feature in the upcoming Android version, 4.4 also known as Kitkat. The aim to make it easy to get files on the, once the is connected it becomes accessible using an app that will allow for easy reading and writing to the drive.The developers are no strangers to regular visitors of the site, the pcb board developer is also behind DVD-Ranger / CinEx and has developed FoxSDK a burning engine used in several burning and movie. Recently they also posted a crowdfunding project on the same site to raise money for the CinEx module. Later the project was pulled, allegedly because users complained and the crowdfunding website decided to put the project on hold.At this moment the project has raised 248 from 26 funders with 61 hours left to meet the goal of 88,0000.More information on Open MAPI can be found on this website.
