Hi, I'm a newbie to this, so please don't yell if my questions sound stupid. :) I have an LG GWA-4164B in my new Dell XPS, its supposed to read dual layer DVDs...but it doesn't. I've read a couple of articles about cross flashing the drive with the LG CSA-4166B firmware, which would supposedly allow for use of DVD-RAM, as well as dual layer support. Can this really be done? I've looked at some of the firmware code and seen a reference to 4164 in there, however the LG provided firmware loader absolutely refuses to load the updated firmware. So, assuming it is possible, exactly how would I cross flash from the 4164 to the 4166?
