homedepotfan -> troubles updating firmware.... (4/12/2006 8:18:14 AM)

I have a Pioneer HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8160B version 1.02 and cant seem to find the firmware to update it and would love some help. I also found the firmware for my Pioneer DVD-Rom DVD-117R and I cant upgrade it cause the file is made for installing in Win 95/98 and talks about going into MS-Dos so not sure how to go about actually installing it either so if anyone knows about that I would love some help here as well. My Purpose ofr wanting to do this is I am finally starting to burn after having this puter for a couple years and I am getting illegal disc errors with Nero 7 Ultra when i try to burn VCD's, strangely I can burn audio files with it just fine but cant seem to get VCD's to work. Even stranger is the first thing I ever tried to burn was a VCD and it worked great, none have worked since then. So I have read many posts about this issue on many different sites and firmware seems to be the main issue. So before I toss my puter out the window someone please help me hehe. If any other info is needed please post here what I need to do and I will gladly do my part to help figure all this out, thanks in advance for the help!

Antonio -> RE: troubles updating firmware.... (4/12/2006 8:24:58 AM)

For firmwares there is only rpc1.org

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=1&manufactor=25

homedepotfan -> RE: troubles updating firmware.... (4/12/2006 8:35:53 AM)

I have looked there and everything for my model number seems to be for LG not Pioneer so am still a little lost. Is it safe for me to use LG's version since mine is Pioneer?

Antonio -> RE: troubles updating firmware.... (4/12/2006 10:59:53 AM)

Which one is LG and not Pioneer?

Firmware for DVD-117

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=149

HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8160B is definately an LG...

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=534

homedepotfan -> RE: troubles updating firmware.... (4/12/2006 11:59:58 AM)

so my cdrw is a LG? cause i got a neat little utility named PC Wizard 2006 and it says its a Pioneer as well as my DVD-Rom, so if its a LG then that makes me feel better cause all the updates seem to be LG, Dell or HP.  And thank you for all the time and effort, much appreciated!  Wanted to also add i had previously found the firmware you showed above for my DVD-117R but when i read the read me file after i unpack it, it talks about booting to DOS and i dont know that I can do that with XP so not sure its a usable firmware update for me, sorry for all the question and my lack of knowledge =(

MP3Mogul -> RE: troubles updating firmware.... (4/12/2006 12:28:27 PM)

Yes it's an LG... also, I noticed you have DMA set off.... it should be ON

Antonio -> RE: troubles updating firmware.... (4/13/2006 1:14:52 AM)

I missed that...[:D][;)]

homedepotfan -> RE: troubles updating firmware.... (4/13/2006 12:09:41 PM)

so any explaination on how to actually update that firmware since it talks about booting to DOS and only mentions Win 95/98? Is it even usable for me since i run XP?  And i have now set the drive to DMA if able or something like that through the device manager, so I think its ok now, thanks for that tip!
