Has anyone managed a SD4.60 (Call of Duty 2/Quake 4 etc...) perfect backup that works in the picky readers (Toshiba SDM series and the likes) with no emulation/patches/hiding apps? Using software such as DiscJuggler/A120% and CCD, is there any hardware out there that is capable of this newer SafeDisc version? I have tried the old faithfuls, Plex's PX-R820T/PX-W8220T but to no avail (known SD3.2 killers), the best I can get is backups playing in other Plextor hardware, with weak sector amplification on and off and 4X reading/writing with all the software, but failing the verification checks when played on a Yami CRW-F1DX and BenQ DW1640/PX-740A...

I would love to know if there is any actual fact-proven hardware that beats this prot, and no flukes! Does a SD4.6x killer exist? Has anybody any luck without cracking/emulation (cheating)? This is driving me crazy (this SD version) as i can usually get perfect copies but v4.60 has perhaps put an end to this.

By the way, I am talking CD versions here, as there is no known method applicable to the DVD versions of the same revisions of SafeDisc.
I have been at this all day, tried so many reader/writer combos and many, many speeds so if anybody at all can shed light relevant to all this I'm all ears and would much appreciate it as I'm sure I'm not the only one having difficulties in achieving what I want (a working backup, made by the hardware, no software tricks). So does such a beast exist?

Actually, it seems it doesn't, no working backup of v4.6. It does the v3.1 correct, but.

Furthermore, I managed to find a way that satisfies me for now:
  • Alcohol 120% v1.9.5 (Build 3823): Read using Plextor CD-R PX-R820Te v1.08 SafeDisc profile @ 4X
  • CloneCD v5.2.8.1: Write using Plextor DVDR PX-712A v1.07 AWS on @ 4X

Backup now works in Plextor PX-740A (BenQ 1640), PX-712A, PX-R820Te, UltraPlex 40max (Hide CD-R where applicable) - that's the only drives I've tested so far. I need to pull out an old Toshiba SDM to verify, but it might not work there though...
Seems to me the Plex write + CCD AWS combination is still strong, even against SD v4.60!

However, if anybody finds some 3-Sheep burner or a SD4.60 hardware killer, please post here! It is apparent that newer 4.6 revisions of SD have choked the once mighty Plextor's PX-R820T and therfore the PX-W8220T models that had the 'special chipsets'... I am also under the impression that some Lite-On (MTK based) CD-R and DVD recorders can *sometimes* make good backups, but it's rather hit and miss, and varies from drive to drive of the same models even. Surely there must be some experienced SD 4 CD back-er-up-er-as out there!?!?! [;)]

Have you tried a Plextor Premium with just Alcohol 120% (SafeDisc 2/3) at 4x?  That seems to work for a bunch over at CDFreaks.

Made a working copy without "Amplify Weak Sectors On" using LG GSA-4166B.

What do you mean? The best LG writer I've seen is a "2 Sheep". Have you tried any?

I know the older Toshiba writers were also good at SD, specifically the models SD-R5002, SD-R5112 & SD-R5272. Question is, has anybody tested these writers in conjunction with SD v4.6x at all? And tested the produced backups in a Toshiba DVD-ROM drive? Do they work? I would love to hear from somebody who can provide a further insight in the matter.

Also, what medium is the Quake 4 SD v4.6x game used in the reviews on? CD or DVD? It doesn't state in the reviews, and this is a really important factor, since the DVD version (containing SD v4.6x) is next to impossible to backup properly, without resorting to third-party tools... (Although I am assuming it is CD-ROM, as it states "RAW writing mode" was used in A120%...)
