Hello, I'm Randy Stegbauer.

What a GREAT site!  So much good information and helpfull people.

I don't have a DVD burner yet.  From the reviews I've read here, I will buy a BenQ 1640 as soon as it is released in the USA.

I heard that the Plextor 740 has different firmware and thus different features.  And the BenQ 1640 firmware is "better".

Is this true?  Or was I reading too much into it?

The drives are almost the same. The firmwares are different indeed but the actual performance of the drive the same. If you want to ompare those two drives before proceed with your purchase, better take a look in both drive's reviews at CDRinfo.
