Hello. I wonder if you can help me.

Further to my post in the CD-R/W Hardware - General Talking section (btw thanks for the reply John), I am thinking about buying one of the new 24X Plextors myself, and selling my existing 12X Plextor (I already have a buyer). The main reason for this is SD2 games.

I just needed to be sure though, before I buy the new drive, that copying SD2 games is really that easy. You said in a recent post that: 'I recomend it. It copies everything...I switched to clonecd, the latest version. No erros or problems.'

Could you please tell me if you had any problems getting the right settings in Clone CD for your SD2 games? ClonyXL says to use fast error skip for SD2, but what fast error skip settings (i.e. Read Retries, Error Correction) and Read Speed did you actually use? Were the settings the same for each of the different games? Did you have to play around with the settings or did you get it right first time? Were there any problems at all with the burning process?

Please excuse all the questions - I just want to be clear on how easy things are before I shell out for a new drive.

hey i too have a plex24 and recently just today copied From Dusk Till Dawn which uses the new atip check in SafeDisc2....both clonecd and blindwrite suite copied it perfectly...but for this game and others to work you need to install it with a cdrom and that is it

What Clone CD settings did you use?

I used the latest release. 3.0.9.1. Works great with my plextor reader. Like I said, I am able to burn perfect SD2 cd on the "fly". I love my plextors!!!!

I used the default settings, then I did some reading and made sure while using clonecd the following items were checked; again this is under clonecd ver 3.0.9.1

write speed: MAX
write mode : RAW DAO

check burn proof
check perform laser power calibration

leave Dont repair subchannel data blank

check always close last session.

Hey thanks for the replies.

netwiz01, you've used the same settings that I've been using up to this point with my 12X Plextor. The only difference is that I use this one drive as both reader and writer. I select "Copy CD" from the first Clone CD menu, then change the CDs over when it asks me to, and it deletes the image file itself once the write is sucessful. I ain't had any problems either with any game so far, using just the basic burn proof and always close last session settings.

This SD2 though, ClonyXL (don't know how accurate it is) says that you have to use fast error skip to copy SD2. I've never used fast error skip, read subchannel data, intelligent bad sector scanner, don't repair subchannel data etc, only the settings mention above.

It seems then that you don't need to use fast error skip for SD2 games, at least, not with the 24X Plextor. Can anyone else confirm or deny this? As always, any help would be greatly appreciated.

You are right. With the new Plextor 24x it does not matter with the fast skip error. I truly think the setting that are used for later verision of plextor don't apply. Before getting my 24x i was using my 12x/4x/32x PW-124TS with firmware 1.07 It served me well. I copied a few SD2 disk like NOLF Madden 2002, but i had to play them in the burner cd. I also had to check fast skip error as well. The setting on the writter had to be perfect to make a perfect working duplicate. Things have changed with the new Plextor 24x. I just make sure I have my good quality cdr media and let the Plextor do its business. I love this model. Best of yet if you live in the USA you can grab it for $180.00 usd. I totaly recomed it. Not too mention I burn cd's at 16x and better. The drive actually examines the quality of the cdr media in the drive and based on that can burn at the best performance speed automaticaly for you. Plextor recomends certain cdr from certain companies. I only use TDK, Sony and HP, though I am dropping HP and going to stay sony. Their prices are steap sometimes, but there is a sale going on. 50 pack for $19.99 in the USA from CompUSA store.

Best of luck let me know how it goes. If you can manage get the 24x you won't regret it!!!

PS. If you do have two plextors will be a killer combination for you. I am talking from experience. It will give it the ability to burn on the "fly" like me. Which is wonderful and adding burn proof is even better. Today I did the final, final test of my plextor. I actually burned a backup of Max Payne on the fly while watching the DVD moive U-571. At one point the movie crashed, but the bruning process never stopped. I and to restart the movie, but that was it. I know what the problem was. But, totaly incredible to burn a cd and watch a dvd at the same time.

I live in the UK, but prices here are okay, plus I'll get a decent amount for selling my 12X. I've been using Verbatim DataLifePlus CD-Rs and have never had a problem with them.

Just one last question for you - As I said, I'll only have one cd drive to use when making copies, so I can't do your 'on-the-fly' method. Have you tried making a copy using just one drive (the 24X Plextor) as the reader and the writer (like I would be doing)? I wonder if that makes a difference. Have you tired copying things this way? Oh yes, what's all that TLA # stuff on about? Should I be concerned that I'll get the wrong 'version' of the 24X Plextor?

Don't be concerned with TLA#'s I have been doing a lot of reading on this site and that information you are refering to is all rumor. The number you mus pay attention to is the firmware. Just make sure you upgrade it to 1.02. The Plextor will come shipped with ver 1.00. I will do a burn with clonecd for you and post it right away. I do enjoy "burning on the fly" a lot though. I guess this is going to add some total time to my record breaking burns. Best of luck with getting the Plextor 24x, you can't go wrong with it. I can't say enough good things about it. I was just like you before getting my plextor. I had a lot of questions. Belive me when I say this the drive is awsome. You can really see it kick butt with a second plextor. Matter of fact I burned Max Payne and watched a DVD at the same time. I have dual monitors so it worked out perfectly and so did the backup cd. You won't be disapointed when you get it. I don't know anything about liteon's 24x, but i am not sure the liteon can burn on the "fly". If you have any questions just let me know.

PS I have TLA# 0100 no problems what so ever. Go Plextor!!!

Ok I burned Max Payne using the plextor 24x as the reader and writer the whole burning process took 6min & 24sec. I did not expect any problems nor where there any. I guess the only difference is the added 2min 36sec to it takes when making an image on the hard drive. Other than that, it still makes a perfect burn. I have been telling all my friends get it now. The Plextor is hot!!!

Sure thing no problem. I hope it works out. I acted on the Plextor because they also had a $20.00 rebate in the USA. I after my rebate total cost to me was $162.00 No bad for a 24X. See ya..
