TERMS OF USE

1) Posting questions/commends about CD/DVD media, write errors, software problems, etc will be deleted without any notice!
2) Before use any of the attached binaries, please BACKUP your current firmware and compare it with the posted below files. If you have something different please let us know!
3) Any use of the attached binaries is done AT YOUR OWN RISK!
4) I have read the following questions and understood competly the above terms of use!

Readme 1st

Q: What is NEC 3530A?
A: NEC enters the high DVD +/-R DL race with 3530A, since supports 6X +R DL and 6X -R DL

Q: Can I transform my 3530A to a 3540A and via versa?
A: That possibility will be tested soon....Please wait!

Q: What are the main differences between 3530A and 3540A?
A: The only difference between both drives, is that 3540 supports 8X +R DL, while 3530A 6X +R DL.

Q: Where can I find region free firmware for my 3530A drive?
A: Please visit TDB

Q: Will I loose my warranty if I decide to use any of the hosted firmwares?
A: As long as the drive's ID remain the same (ND-3530A), there isn't any problem with your warranty. If you mislfash, or after the flash, your drive is not working propearly or at all, then you have problem, since even with the NEC's official updaters, such problems are not covered from warranty, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Q: I have RitekG05 (or any other media) and I would like to know how i can burn them at 8X, which firmware will do the job?
A: Usually NEC is very strict supporting Ritek or many other media at the maximum available recording speed (at our case 16X), so its suggested to use NEC Dump and see if the media you want to use (or buy) is supported at the desired (16X) speed. There are several modified firmware for the 3520A users, but are not suggested to use, unless from experienced users.

Q: Hey just found you looking around google, and my drive has different firmware revision or unknown firmware, what should I do?
A: First of all welcome aboard! Please use Binflash and extract/backup your firmware before using any other firmware. Compare your firmware with NEC Dump and if something is differnet (newer/older), sent us a private message....

Q: Hey!!! I had posted a question and cannot find it, why you deleted it?
A: Please read the terms of use and avoid posting questions NOT related with 3530 firmware subjects. Asking which media will work fine with your burner is so typical, use NECDump to see which media are supported at 12X/16X and use them! If you still think that your post shouldn't posted, private message us and we will see [:)]

B) Utilities
Q: With which utilities can I flash/extract the firmware from my NEC ND-3530A (and OEM) drives?
A: BinFlash supports 3530 flash/extract functions, it can be used to use any of the following firmware binaries!

Q: Where can I find NECDump?
A: Please visit this page and check at the bottom (signature)!

I have a NEC 3530A that came with my Dell Dimension 8400, and I every time I try to burn a DVD with Nero it fails, so I want to update the firmware.  My firmware is currently 102B (got that info from Nero).  What firmware should I use to flash my drive?

ftigu30 -> RE: NEC ND-3530A and OEM firmware Overview (5/23/2005 6:59:27 PM)

Hi, just got a NEC 3530A with 1.02 firmware on it and it isnt preforming to my expectations so I see there is 3.01 firmware available but how do I go about flashing my drive as all my other drives basicly have done it in one click and when I try to do this one it says "Target NEC ND-3530A is not found correctly" but the drive works in all other ways. I have tried the obvious like making it a master and removing other drives but I am not getting anywhere.

Cheers in advance if you can help.[:)]

ftigu30,
I tried to reply to the email you sent me, but it was undeliverable for some reason.  I will post the body of my email here:

"Hi!  I had a terrible time flashing my drive, so I'd be more than happy to help so you don't go through the same ordeal.  First off, DO NOT flash with the 3.23 firmware, it made my drives disappear from the BIOS and I had a hell of a time getting them back.  I ended up using the 3.01 firmware and my drive has performed flawlessly since then.  Download the 3.01 firmware file from the cdrinfo.com forum where you found my post, and use the flashing utility I attached to this email.  The other file I included is the original 1.02 firmware from our drives in case you run into any problems, so you can flash the drive back to its original state.  Just run NECWinFlash and press the 'Flash' button.  A dialog will pop up asking you to select the firmware file.  Select the file you downloaded from cdrinfo.com and sit back while it flashes.  After it is done you will need to reboot your computer.  I verified the flash was successful by opening Nero Burning ROM and selecting my drive, in the drive info it listed my firmware as 3.01.  Hope this helps, if you have any questions or run into any problems let me know and I'll try to help."

I can't attach files to my posts here, so you can download NECWinFlash here: http://binflash.cdfreaks.com/  I went with the Win32 GUI version.  Again, if you need more help just let me know.

So when I download the 3.01 fw, it has a .rar extension, which binflash does not recognize (i.e., the downloaded file is not a .bin file).  Should I use the .rar file anyway?

lex22 -> RE: NEC ND-3530A and OEM firmware Overview (6/25/2005 3:24:13 AM)

One more question.  Where does this fw come from?  NEC does not even list this drive on their website.  The obviously make it though...

Moreover, my drive came from Dell, who does not have any fw on their site for this drive.  Why is this and why can this website get firmware that Dell doesn't have?

riot -> RE: NEC ND-3530A and OEM firmware Overview (6/25/2005 7:18:33 AM)

You need to extract the .bin file from the .rar using WinRAR, PowerArchiver, etc....As far as where the firmware comes from...I like to think that tree-dwelling gnomes write device firmware in thier spare time.  Seriously, I don't know where the firmware comes from.

emperor -> RE: NEC ND-3530A and OEM firmware Overview (7/7/2005 4:37:56 PM)

Firmwares are coming either from NEC or from retail drives we have in our labs or from other users, its so simple [;)]

riot -> RE: NEC ND-3530A and OEM firmware Overview (7/7/2005 6:53:08 PM)

So much for my tree-dwelling gnomes theory.  [:)]

umarkhn -> RE: NEC ND-3530A and OEM firmware Overview (4/11/2006 8:14:28 AM)

hey riot, got a little problem. could you elp me as i also used the 3.23 firmware and now my drive wont read anything when opened and closed all u hear is a stuttering noise, could you please hep me.  and how did u manage to get your drive back. i backed up my old firmware and named it firmware, why cant i reflash my drive with my old firmware.

riot -> RE: NEC ND-3530A and OEM firmware Overview (4/11/2006 7:31:33 PM)

umarkhn - you should be able to flash back to your original firmware, as long as you backed it up correctly.  If it won't work for whatever reason then try the 3.01 firmware that you can get above, it's been working great for me for almost a year!

umarkhn -> RE: NEC ND-3530A and OEM firmware Overview (4/14/2006 1:32:59 PM)

yeh riot dude,  i tried flashing with the fw you reomended but i got another problem. when flashing the prob( necwinflash ) SAID  sending fw to drive 0X0006 ( this is stated at the bottom of the prog) after this, the program crashes and i must close it. then my drive ebcomes undetectable and the only way to make it redetectable is to turn the comp off and then back on,.
