Please spare me disgrace and don't bother answering at all... I'm lucky though - becuse I had no other, more serious problems with my equipment... I'm the client only and my contibution to the company's profit isn't worth mentioning [:D]

Found a very comprehensive FAQ regarding protections and drive's read/write capabilities.

Greetings and may the force be with us.

Some good news for owners of this drive.

Today I needed to backup my original MR/CT Atlas of Anatomy by Thieme protected with Laserlock. Because it is already scratched and exposed to instant use, I was affraid this CD will be soon unreadable. Since it costed me 102 EUR - which in my country is quite an amount of money - I wanted a backup to use on a day-to-day basis. As for the original it now landed in fine storing conditions as the mean of the last resort.

For the backup purpose I used CloneCD 5.1.0.0.

Selected options were - User defined profile :

Read speed for data tracks: Maximum
Read subchannel data from data tracks: Yes
Fast read error skip: Yes
Do not show read errors: No
Intelligent bad sector scanner: No

And the backup works after burning it in RAW-DAO mode. It takes up to minute to veryfi the protection - and it goes smoothly [:)]

Hoooray for the drive [;)]

So this drive can read sub-channel data after all? That's with the stock official 1.07 firmware right?

(I'm not familiar with the Laserlock scheme so please excuse my ignorance on it)

http://www.laserlock.com/product_features.html#physical_sign

I'm quite certain it wasn't Laserlock-Marathon protection though - because the area occupied by the protection was 19.5 MByte as stated by Explorer (size of the Laserlok directory).

It took drive 52 minutes 14 second to complete image creation. Average ripping speed reported was : 248 kBytes/s (1.41). Drive reported around 500 unrecovered sectors.

Other titles protected with Laserlock : Desperados, Worms World Party, Dino Crisis, Messiah, MDK 2.

Usually producer indicates on the cover or near the inner area of the disc - that it is Laserlock copy protected.

As for reading subchannel data - it seems to read some of it - but not yet verified if all channels are retrived - which is a necessity for making perfect copies. And there are 8 subchannels to retrive from the original disc - not all are necessirily used - but they may be used.

As for the brand newest Alcohol 120% 1.9.5.2802 - it still doesn't support the drive while making CDImages or the drive is still incompatible with this software. Applies to firmware revisions up to 1.07.
