Hi Minos, thanks for the new firmware.

I'm thinking about cross-flashing my dvdr1640p (retail) philips with a benq firmware... which is the right version? The firmware for Benq 1620?

Thanks!

Firmware 3.4 for this drive is out....

But not for my drive.... it doesn't work anymore... I've used it only 6 or 7 times, and just after 1 month from the purchase, it's dead... yesterday a smell of "burnt" came out from my case... now it's still present in Windows, and I could still re-flash it with the original 2.2 firmware, but the tray doesn't work anyway, and it doesn't recognize any disc .....

Well, it always had a few problems recognizing discs.... tomorrow I'll call Philips support and RMA it...

Sure, here it is:
Philips 3.4 firmware for DVDR1640P series

It's Official, directly from Philips' support website.
I was so upset about my "dead" drive, I forgot to post the link.

By the way, I called Philips for warranty... their phone line support costs about 0,25 € /minute, so I spent about 3 € just to get the fax #.... but what has made me REALLY ANGRY is that they will send me a REFURBISHED DRIVE !!! I've just bought my drive, about a month, and used it just 4 times.... I expected they would send me a NEW ONE....

Oh, well, I think Philips support policy just got worse during the past few years...

I'll go out tomorrow and buy an LG-4163 instead... apart from the CDS200 protection, it's a REALLY NICE DRIVE.
I've just read your review (I always do, as soon as you put it on the web).
