I'm shopping around for a portable mp3 player, and was wondering if anyone has a recommendation. The Apples (forget their actual name) seem the best, although damned pricey.
Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

You are correct, the Apple is probably the best right now. It's also available in a Windows version too. If price is no object, this is the way to go.

I personally use the RioVolt, it doesn't use memory cards, but it plays MP3 cd's. Which are more convenient, and cheaper to me. It works excellent, and I've never had a problem with it.

I also prefer to use the 8cm "MP3" CD-Rs instead of memory sticks or the like. It's always nice to be able to use them on your PC as well

I use a a factory direct model miniMP3 CD Player, with no brand and no way to get more... so I can't be of much help recommending it LOL!

I use and recommend the Sony DC-J01 MP3/CD Walkman. I simply believe the storage of the CD (700MB or so of MP3) is better for price and convenience than current players with built-in memory. The next model (DNE1) is better on battery life and offers Sony's own ATRAC3/ATRAC3 Plus format compatibility.

I recently picked up an Archos Jukebox Recorder, which has the mp3 player as well as a built in recording feature.
20 GB on Amazon.com for $179, and it had a $50 rebate when I got it.

Works great with an FM transmitter in my car stereo.

Looks like the model I got is no longer being sold, as the http://www.archos.com/ site is now listing the Gemini model and Ondio. You can still find them used on Amazon and probably on eBay.com.

I highly recommend Panasonic's AM/FM MP3 CD player. It costs about $60. Batteries on the newer model supposedly lasts over 70 hours on 2AA. I kind of need a portable AM/FM MP3 DVD (walkman type) player. I already have about 6 CDs of 128kbps MP3.
