I think Intel are more stable and reliable, isn't it?

The truth now is that the whole situation is a kind of complicated. New sockets for both, new RAM, new VGA slots, even new Power supply connections.

Very much correct Iggy, I recently did an upgrade, myself I choose P4 everytime over AMD, unless I'm building one of my kids a basic computer... then I go budget AMD processors.... I don't like the Celerons

i did some googling about this and i was very disapointed with AMD!!! Why??? this is why:

I found out that AMD64 3000+ is better than Intel 3.0GHz processor, and Intel managed to overcome AMD64 processors only in Video encoding. And imagine that AMD64 has 512kb L2 cache and Intel has 1MB L2 cache... BUT, AMD will start selling AMD64 3000+ processors with 939 socket. Unfortunately these processors are not available in Italy yet, and i heard rumors that even in USA are hard to find. Also, only AGP port is supported in the 939 socketed motherboards that are available for now...

My point is that if someone wants to buy a PC now, will have to get an Intel based PC (socket 775) if he wants to be able to upgrade easily, without changing motherboard... but, again, these processors are not the fastest ones. For example, i was thinking to get a 3.0GHz or 3000+ processor, and maybe upgrade to a 3.6GHz or 3.8GHz in a year from now... If i 'll get an AMD, i will have to change my motherboard, and the cost will be bigger, since AMD processors at this speed will be available only at 939 socket. But if i'll get an Intel based PC (socket 775) i can do the future upgrade without changing my mobo...

Damn, tough decision indeed

and one more thing... temperature problems that were always AMD's trouble, they've become Intel's trouble with socket 775 processors

I have an amd64 3200+ (newcastle with 512cache) for its price its a very good proccess. It heats up less than a pentium 4. With the original amd cooler the temperature is 35% (xaser 5 wingo case). I'd go for an AMD as with win64 (still not final version) applications are very fast. with win32 still faster than a pentium 4, 3.6ghz as till now i compared it with a 3.6ghz of my friends.

I have this processor one month and works gr8. Temperature is 10 - 13 degrees celsius, sometimes 6. DDR 2 and others new stuff. This is my choice, like more Intel then AMD.

Regards,
JM.
