Will that work ? 40x(GCE-8400B) uses "SuperLink" technology, 48x(GCE-8480B) "ExacLink" technology, that's why I ask.

I updated to latest 40x firmware(1.04), but when I tried to do with 48x, it gave me an error message, that cannot update between different models. I used JE4 flashing program.

You can flash it with MTKFLASH since this drive have a mediatech chip.I did it and with the command MTKFLASH (port#) w /b /m 8480B.bin it will flash the 7 eprom banks ending with a checsum #.But your drive will not been reconize by the computer.I boot into XP and i got a "unknown device" error.

Good luck

Hmm..That means the 48X drive uses OAK chipsets instead of Mediatek of the 40X. The OC won't work...

...which would mean lack of *correct* EFM encoding of RBP...

Just an observation, and with the new CCD it will probably be irrelevant anyways.

Allright.

So seems to be that this CDRW-drive is impossible to OC, right ? I'm pretty newbie on these things.

At least I updated firmware into newest version, 1.04.

Oh, by the way my drive has 8MB buffer, but I guess that has nothing to do with firmware updates...
