Some people may wonder how close dvdinfo scans on new 3.xx software compared to other scanback packages. Well I did some testing and I will post 3 scans all 3 scan are of the same disk, this disk has 3gb of video on it and was burned using nero 6.3.1.17. on my new benQ 1600 fw B5G9, then scanned for pie/pif and jitter on nu tech, benQ , and for pie/pif on liteon 832.

As you will see the level are all within 5% or less...not bad if you take into account that no drive will ever scan the same as another and, at least in theory, no two scans on scan drive will be identical.

Nu tech 082 fw B375

Incidentally, pay close attention to the fact that the scans are resulting in level 2 spikes in almost EXACTLY the same locations...very interesting!

Well, I must say...I am impressed. This is quite a nice summation indeed. Good work ken for highlighting this and proving some very valuable points!

Well, I am speechless. Excellent work Ken and excellent scans. Thanks very much for having the thought to do this and for posting your results I appreciate it, as I am sure others do too.

First I should comment that the level on these scans are amazingly low, for example the pie level is under 5 in all cases on first 3 scans also notice the number of pif errors is very low and level is under 2.5 It should also be noted that the jitter on the two scans with jitter is 10% or lower. and around 8% part of the time 8% jitter is seen as the magic level, the I'm a god like scan level.

standard values

pie 280 or less
pif 4 or less
jitter 15% or less.

Hmm I seem to get the opposite scans are off between the two. My Kprobe and CDspeed scans show way more PIE(PI) than DVDInfo pro does using the same drive liteon 832 and disk. I will post kprobe results next. Could this be a bug in using a firewire interface with DVDinfopro?

Dvdinfo pro scan 4x.

This is the kprobe scan. The PIFs are about the same but the PIE (PI) seem to be about 3 times as much. I get almost identical scan with cdspeed3 as this one. My nu 082 scan is way different than any of these, not sure if I can rely on that drive.
