For info sack only. I down loaded and flashed the new dd401 f/w 160E and the drive refused to write on any media. Tried flashing a 2nd time insuring, nothing else running and same happened. Also got my first blue screen in long time.
I re flashed f/w 150E so its writing again. Suggest be aware there may be problems with this upgrade.

So the new firmware doesn't work correctly with the Optorite firmware?

I also killed one of my DD0401 drives when trying to upgrade the firmware. It didn't even show up in Bios post anymore. This was with fw 1.30 though.

I'm still going to risk it and try 1.60 myself.

I will report back on how it went :)

No emperor. It isn't working on my dd401. I upgraded from 130E to 150E a few months ago and had no problems. this time my computer became unstable and the drive wouldn't write. I sent an email to optorite. Maybe i'm an isolated case.

Confirmed. 1.60 totally disabled my drive: couldn't even burn a cd-r at 16x (MCC) anymore.

I'm flashing back to 1.50 and giving feedback to Optorite.

This was optorites reply to my email:

Hello,

I don't think there was any changes made to the firmware program other than the revised BIN file. However, I am not sure why you are experiencing the writing problems you have stated.

A. Can you burn to either of those Ritek brand discs with the 150E firmware?
B. What is the media code information for those Ritek discs?
1. Download, install and run the program from http://www.dvdinfopro.com/. This program is freeware.
2. Insert a blank DVD disc into the drive.
3. Click on the "Media" icon and a new screen with a bunch of information should appear. Let me know what the media code is.
C. Any hardware/software changes made to the computer recently?

Thank you,
OptoRite Support

I replied g04 and r03. and that i had 6 coaster out of 10 with the r03 using 150E. Thats why I tried upgrade to 160E. Awaiting their reply.
