Hi guys,

First off, I live in Halifax NS Canada and shops that sell a wide list of quality CDRW's are limited indeed. I don't see any new plexors or Teac or what not but I have narrowed it down to two drives that are good that they offer here. A quality cdrw ober 40x is hard to find here it seems




Some facts

1) Price is not a main concern with me I just want the best choice out of the two

2) I DO NOT want a media picky device!!! The one with best media support is a PLUS!! Different speeds as well

3)I want to burn quality audio, games, computer software


A local computer store here has a LITEON 48x12x48 IDE CD-RW for $105.00 canadian dollars

Futureshop in halifax has a YAMAHA CRW-F1E IDE CDR-W for $190.00 canadian dollars


Questions...

1) Which is best of the two if PRICE was no concern?

2) Is the software included with the yamaha cdrw worth the extra $85.00 canadian?

3) should I say screw them both and wait until someone here gets the new Lite on 52x24x52 cdrw?



I know both are good drives but I wonder which one is the best with the latest firmware? what would you guys choose in my situation?

I know the lite on is faster but I wonder if the features and software included with the yamaha is worth me spending an extra $85 dollars?

forget disc tatoo gimmick I mean the other features besides that...

Well this is hard for me to admit, because I am a liteon lover! But if you plan to do a lot of audio I would have to go with the Yamaha drive. I think Liteon is the better choice for games and computer software, but the Yamaha will do the job with the right software and settings, but Liteons have trouble with Audio that is protected. There are ways around it, but it is a bit more complicated. So if you were to force me to make a decision I would have to go with the Yamaha.

hmmm....I want to burn audio media and data and games.

the only real plus about the lite on is its price and speed. Price is not a concern for me and I guess I can live with a couple seconds more for a cd burn.

The yamaha is packed with features and a little slower so I guess the yamaha wins. I want to burn protected cd's and give it to my gf's son and if the lite on can't do that then the choice is simple.

As far as I've been able to determine the Liteon will burn pretty much anything that your source drive will feed it. The problem is the drive cannot rip any protected audio cd's at all, if you have a reader that CAN rip it it will burn it.
The Yamaha is built better, can rip most protected audio cd's has the neat tattoo feature and the audio master function.
I don't know if it can do the latest SD 2.51 games and above but it will do pretty much anything else without an extra reader.
I use a Buslink/Liteon as my burner and I have a Plex 40 wide reader that will rip protected audio if I need to do one. I also have a LiteOn 163 DVD for everything else.
So I guess it depends on what you want to do for how much, also are the neat features and build quality of the Yamaha something you like or need :)

It boils down to reading the reviews, deciding what you want to do with the drive and then looking at the price and quality. Dartman is very right. I love my Liteons, but do not do much Audio. It does everything else GREAT! The price was right, and they seem to last forever. I have two....

I want to burn cd's with mp3's I have on my computer. I don't plan on burning protected audio cd's. So the lite on seems the winner now:) You guys burn mp3's on your blank cdr media with no probs right? good sound quality?

Yes, my liteon can burn MP3s no problem. Great results....

Hey Remo,
as for line 3 here, the 48x12x48 (LTR-48126S) I just purchased a few days ago and you can overclock this model to the 48x24x48 or 52x24x52 pick your choice. Easy to do.
