I used Verbatim 8X and was getting 8X writing speed with LG 12X firmware A102, so far ok i thought, but Nicw told me that A102 firmware can do 12X with Verbatim 8X, so i checked the media we had here, from Verbatim and MKM:

Looking at the media ID codes, under DVDInfoPro, both media look exactly the same, using the extended ID code we can see a difference RI for Verbatim, Bn for MKM...Maybe the RI Verbatim media will phased out soon by Bn MKM?
Can you please post the complete media ID code(s) from your Verbatim 8X media? A user send us this details:

So there is high possibility that all Verbatim 8X with printable top using the old media type...
