As we all know, Plextools reads PI/PIF errors at the fixed speed of 2X CLV.

Below are some test results with several other reading speeds, 5X/8X/12X, by using the same media (Maxell 8X DVD+R @ 12X with PleXWriter PX-712A, firmware v1.01):

A generic comment would be that, when the disc is a good shape, reading either at 2X CLV, or at 5X CAV gives almost equal results. Reading at 8X/12X CAV seems reporting too many errors.

In the case there is a problem, reading at 5X/8X/12X CAV speeds gave almost the same peak values but at the higher reading speed, the increasement of the PI error trend line starts much before, in short words, higher reading speed, amplifies the reported error rate.

Yes when there is a problem, the 5X/8X/12X will amplify the reported error rates, when the disc is clean, will give more or less same error rate levels

I've also been (obsessively, but don't let on) tinkering with the versatile PlexTools 2.14 and my newish 712A/1.02, but how did you (emperor) got it to scan PI/PIF at those other reading speeds? I thought I had scoped out all of the options and preferences.

I'll try to contribute a few graphs when I can; I'm getting lovely results with ProDisc S03, BeAll DVD-R, and Memorex/Ricoh DVD+R 4X at 8X.

kentech, there isn't an option to scan at other speeds with available Plextools version, you need a private one, which cannot be distributed...

We may open our Photo gallery soon for users to uploade their Scan results of various media...
