Hi Gang, I tried to update my DVD burner using DOS/floppy disk. But the floppy was wrong during the flashing prodedure.

Now my dvd burner tray is still out, no response at all. And I can only reboot my PC with my burner disconnected.

What can I do to save this baby?

sadly yours,

I think that if you save the firmware upgrade files in your hd and boot in dos you can navigate to the files and try to upgrade the firmware again.
Just keep in mind that this method does not work to a ntfs formatted hd

My burner is: MediaStor 4x Internal DVD±RW/CD-RW, bought from Bestbuy about 1 month ago.

The problem is: If the burner is connected to the motherboard, the computer will freeze at the VERY beginning:
The screen shows: Detecting IDE devices...
and stays there for ever.

I cannot even enter BIOS.

If I unplug the power supply to the burner, then it boots normally to xp.

So what should I do?

The firmware upgrade process needs a lot of attention and everything must work perfect during the process.
Cheked the drive on another pc and if it is not working your drive is damaged

Something is not hooked up right, because if the drive was just bad it wouldn't stop Windows from booting up! Check all of your drive connections.

Does anybody know where I can flash the firmware manually? Maybe there is a button battery inside the burner (like a motherboard)

If having the drive hooked up causes you to not even be able to get into your bios, I would say there is no hope of restoring your drive. Sorry!

And yes, a really damaged drive can prevent windows from booting up.

Just a thought.. In case your drive is a MediaTek and you own a similar drive or you can borrow one, try the flash trick mentioned here
