Hi Clint - and everyone else!
I have a Digital Research 48x16x48 Internal CD-RW Drive — DR-CDRW481648. I know, shame on me for buying such a generic, no name, high speed drive... but it was $99 w/ $10 MIR at Best Buy and I sold my 24X for $50 ... so not too bad for an upgrade!
Anwyay - this was my introduction to Smart Burn and al lthe headaches associatesd therewith! Previously, I had burned 16X ACER media in my 24X drive w/o any problems at all --- over 100 discs!
But now my stupid drive won't let me burn over 16x on these discs! I did have some Verbatin 32X (actually Mitubisha Chemical;2 - thanks to whoever posted the easteregg about SHIFT-refresh on the media info screen!
) that Nero sez I can burn at 40X (doesn't work tho... sometimes doesn't work at 32X either - but that's another story).
Clint --- you said "
If you really want to, un-check SMART-BURN in the 'choose recorder' window, and it will write full speed to any media, but risking write quality and errors of course.". I have Nero 5.5.9.0 and the 'choose recorder' window doesn't have this checkbox... did they dump it in this version, or is it somewhere else now?
I'd really like to burn the rest of my 16X media at 24X (or whatever I can) since I did it on my 24x burner w/o any problems....
Last question --- I have an Athalon1400 w/ 1G RAM and a RAID0 (3ea 10k rpm 18G SCSI UltraWide drives) that I burn from --- if I actually spend a little extra and get 48X media, am I likely to be able to burn at 48X? Or only likely w/ a Plextor drive or some big bux good drive?
Thanks, all!
