I have a Yamaha CRW2100E connected as an IDE secondary slave, with an LG CDR connected as IDE secondary master.
CRW fails to recognize all (original) audio CD's I've tried, and most data CD's.
Needless to say, it does not burn a thing!
The few CD's it does recognize are ones burned by it when it was ok.
However, some empty media were recognized, but then ejected in the middle of 'burning' (I do not think anything was burned at all!) and never recovered.
Happened when using Direct CD, Nero or CloneCD.
Tried upgrading firmware - no help.
Reinstalling drivers - no help.
Diconnected IDE cable (Pc was off...) - still same problem: almost every CD I've put inside brings up the constant orange light. Frustration!!!
Should I just trash it away?
Second time within a year, and warrenty is void!
The PC is ASUS CUV4X-C with an Intel P3 866MHz, 384M RAM, OS Win2000 (5.00.2195 SP2)

have exact same problem,but with 95% of all disks,then it stuggles with the drive tray getting up to some ridiculous read speeds,the drive is just 16 months old and i have burnt at most 200 disks,had the device running at secondry slave and a teac 540 on primary slave.i'll be honest i'm going to send the drive back to yamaha directly and purchase a Lite-on.the drive was bought on the first day of release.think i'll wait next time

Hi hagaim
I have noticed you have Intel motherboard so try this
go to the Intel Website http://www.intel.com
and download the Intel Application Accelerator V2.2 for Windows 2000 and make sure you read the Installation instructions and then install it. This does cure loads of problems with Windows and CD drives I use it all the time and have no problems at all with Windows XP and my Yamaha 3200e.
