Hi. I'm new to the forumn. I have GhostRecon and it got scratched the other day and would like to make a backup, so I can put my original away. Please tell me what I need to do. Also please explain to me what is SD2, is that a program? do I need to download it? and what setting must I set in CloneCD (I live in Canada & am aware of the America's Millenium Protection Policy)and any other advices, suggestions or insights you would kindly help this poor noob lol. I have Window ME, Pioneer 16xDVD and PlexWriter 16x10x40a. Thanks in advance.

hi bud and welcome! ghost recon is protected with safedisk 2 (sd2). in order to copy it using clonecd and your equipment you should read it in your plex, check only 'fast error skip' on the read options, and check 'amplify weaks sectors' on the write options. leave everything else at the defaults. you should have no problems. if you try to play it in the plex then you will have to choose 'hide cdr media' from the clone icon in the system tray.

good luck!

you can, and should, get the latest version of clonecd from www.elby.de. just follow the instructions listed above but you may not be able to make a 1:1 copy even using the 'amplify weak sectors' option. olli has reported that those sony-based models won't do correct efm encoding even with aws. you may be able to patch with betablocker or unsafedisk but downloading a no-cd patch from gamecopyworld may be all you need.

Hi netman I followed you instructions. I read and write GR in my plexor. After copying GR I get an error in my copied disk saying:
Ghostrecon has caused error in ~DF394B.TMP
Ghostrecon will now close.
If you continue to experience problems, try retarting you computer.

My guess is that I didn't amplified the weak sectors. b/c CloneCD thinks i'm living in the U.S. or Japan so it doesn't give me the option. Where do i activate that option? must i re-install the program to say I live elsewhere other than these two countries.

Do you think I need XLClony? I tried it and it won't detect SD2.
Please help. Thanks.

If you live in Canada you need to go into the control panel and select the Reginal Settings. In there make sure that you have it set so that it is English and you live in Canada. Now reinstall the clonecd and it should allow you to access the Amplify Weak Sectors. If you do not check this option you will not be able to copy that game.

DarkEclipse the answer to your question is no. If you are in the United States or Japan you do not have that option in CloneCD when you write. What you should do is: 1) go to control panel in windows and fix your regional setting to another country i.e. canada. 2. uninstall and reinstall cloneCD. 3. Click amplify weak sector option. Now you should make that back up cd with no problems.
Good Luck

DarkEcLiPsE the HP8200 cannot amplify weak sectors and hasn't got native EFM encoding. So even if clone cd allows you to choose this option you still won't copy the disk correct.

you can find a liteon 24102b 24x burner on pricewatch for less than $80. i've been ordering from newegg.com lately because the shipping charges are less and it ships a lot faster. this drive copies sd2 without needing aws.

Commenting on that pricewatch quote, he is correct. But make sure you get the Lite on 24x. The other burners are garabge. Check www.cdfreaks.com for a review on the lite-on. Basically, the Lite-on and the plextor 24x can handle any protection, including SD2 and dont need AWS to make a workign copy. The website also has lists about which burners can make SD2 copies. I just copied Comanche 4, whcih has SD2 and ATIP protection. My Px-w124ts copieed it fine, with and wihout AWS. However, I ahd to use Hide Cd-r MEdia on clonecd for the ATIP protection. Im not sure yet if the copy will play on other CD-ROMS
