iam in a major dilemia here....i have a copy of Etherlords and the new game Druuna: Morbus Gravis..both have read errors as their protection...i have not succeeded in making a correct copy for both games...seems that the original copy of Etherlords needs to be installed on a cdrom; not a cd-writer but the original of Druuna installs fine on a cd-writer..odd ...tried using a variety of programs to copy these games blindsuite...failed....clonyxl settings for the newest clonecd...failed...and lastly tried fantom cd...failed...what could be the problem here...seems like this is the only protection that cannot be copied correctly for me and maybe for others too!!! even though i can copy all the other protections out there!!! need info please .. i have a hp 8200a hacked to 9300 writer and a plex 24x speed writer

I made a copy (actually 2) of Etherlords last night. I don't believe that my copy of Etherlords (purchased in the USA) had read errors as a protection scheme. I think its copy protection is SecuROM*new*. Anyway, I was successful using the following settings for reading (checked both read subchannel options, checked Fast Error Skip, 3 retries and hardware.) Copied "on the fly" with the Don't Repair option checked, Close when finished checked. Both reading and writing were set to "Max" speed. I have a SD-M1502 DVD/CDROM as the reader and a Plextor 1610a as the writer. Using Clonecd, but it is not yhe latest version. It is a version that came out about 3 weeks ago if that matters.
The game copied and installed from the DVD drive with no problems encountered. Total time to copy both discs was appoximately 10-12 minutes. Used 2 cheap 80 minute CDR discs.
Don't know anything about Druuna: Morbus Gravis, sorry.

Before burning Etherlords, I scanned it with the newest (I think) version of ClonyXL. It said something to the effect that there is "no protection or protection is unknown".

if it is indeed securom new then clony can't detect that until it is installed. securom new will show several visible rings on the original disk. when clony comes up with that message the next screen will describe how to detect it. if in doubt then try the 'universal' clone settings for unknown protections. read subchannel data from data and audio tracks and fast error skip. burn with only always close last session checked.

good luck!

I didn't install and then check for SecureROM*new*. I just used the settings you described to burn it.

i successfully installed drunna: morbus gravis ( original cd ) on a xp home edition computer with my hp 8200a hacked cd writer but i cannot use clonyxl to see if the game uses securom*new* drivers since clonyxl uses the WINaspi drivers and xp uses patin-coufin drivers...anyway i ran clonyxl again on two other comps and cdroms and cd writers checking to see if disc two of drunna has read errors and i found some interesting info...
56x speed cdrom --- no errors/unknown protection
plex 8/4/32 ------- no errors/unknown protection
24x speed cdrom --- no errors/unknown protection
plex 24/10/40 ----- no errors/unknown protection (first read)
but i did it again (second read) cause i know for sure that disc two gave read errors....started from disc 6 and worked my way down to disc 2 and clonyxl stated that the disc had read errors at 90% of the cd truly odd...could it be because of heat generated from reading five other cds and can that play a factor??? my mind is in a twine now!!

I found this write up (at cdrom-guide.com) on installing ASPI drivers when using WinXP:

For some Burnware w/XP you need to install the ASPI manually BEFORE installing
I see where some people were reporting success using ForceASPI however not so with me. After install running ASPI Check determined it was installed correctly, however 2 helpers were not functioning properly.

Solution:
1) Use ForceASPI's KillAspi.bat
If you have a prior install with the same message I recieved.

2)Go here & D/L Aspi.zip http://xp.xyu.ca/winxp/aspi.zip

3)Run the aspi.bat file & Hit Enter twice

4)Once that's completed, run the aspi32.exe file, select upgrade, and Reboot

Upon XP's restarting you will see a Message
'x# SCSI host Adapters Detected'
Your all set!

I am getting read errors also when trying to back up my copy of Madden NFL2002. I was able to backup Madden 2001 using CloneCD but 2002 gives me a ton of read errors. When I try to run the game with my new copy, I get the EA Sports logo and that is it. The program will never advance any futher. I am using an HP 9500 CD-Writer. I tried using the settings posted in another forum but no luck. Is there anything else I could try, other than buying a new CD-Writer. Thanks

madden 2002 is protected with safedisk 2. the ton of read errors you encounter is part of the protection. your hp 9500 will not do the correct efm encoding necessary to make a copy of sd2, according the the hardware requirements page at the clonecd site. you may be able to make a working copy using the new 'amplify weak sectors' feature of the latest versions of clone or by using betablocker. aside from that you won't be able to copy this game without patching.

I have tried the latest copy of CloneCD(3.2.3.1) but I wasn't able to activate the amplify weak sectors section. I tried it in several different languages but the option was always greyed out. I have also tried blindsuite a few times with no luck. I am not going to give up!!!! Thanks in advance for your help.

hopefully you are using windows ....anyway uninstall clonecd and blindsuite then go in and change your regional settings to Canadaian or even German in the control panel area...restart and reinstall the programs if your regional settings are changed to something other than US i know for sure you will not get the pop up screen stating that you are a US resident when installing clonecd... prior when using blindsuite were you able to check/uncheck the bypass correct efm encoding??? hopefully this will work
