I made a backup of my files to my DVD.  I did use Windows Vista to burn my data.  I decide to reformat my pc and install Windows XP Pro.   When I insert my DVD and my computer doesn't read it.  I tried to do that same thing on my laptop (Windows XP Pro) and same result.  Is any way to able to read the DVD that I made some backup on it?

i did the same just 2 days ago  (meaning I did the exact same thing xcept the reinstalling the OS)and what I did is I brought the disc and a portable hard drive, the office pc is running Win XP Pro, it read the cd and I just transferred the files to the hard drive. The problem is...is ur pc working fine now? If it doesn't read the data u burned try this : (Vista)
right click my computer then go to properties
   click on Device Manager
click on the plus sign on DVD/CD ..etc. (to expand it)
right click on your DVD/CD drive and then pclick uninstall

next

do the same thing on the IDE/ATAPI/ATA controllers and expand it
do the same thing on uninstalling except click no if the system asks you to restart (you will not see the item u uninstalled dissappear)
   continue until all are uninstalled
click the x on the upper right hand to close device manager
   restart

this will make Windows reinstall the original driver on ur DVD/Cd drive.

after all the startups are loaded.... try inserting first other cd's that u burned if it read those it will sure read the one u just burned.

hope this helps
