Thanks in advance.

Since my request for advice has languished here for a couple of weeks, would one of you please suggest a better forum / website for gaining insight into the various models of DVR / DVD recorders currently available?

My efforts searching the web have turned up an amazing number of out-dated and discontined models.

Thanks in advance.

Don't have one... Would be interested myself but it is not a priority... Try googling for reviews... Only thing I can say is stay away from LITE-ON set-top equipment... heard bad things about them.

I found a couple with a familiar brand name (Panasonic):

Panasonic DMR-EH75VS
Progressive Scan DVD Recorder with Built-In 80GB Hard Disk, VCR, SD Card Slot, DV Input, and HDMI Output with EZ Sync™ Control
Records to DVD-RAM/-R/-RW/+R/+RW Discs
http://tinyurl.com/2gpwav
List Price: $499.95

Price after rebate(s): $419.99

Panasonic DMR-EH55S
Progressive Scan DVD Recorder with Built-In 200GB Hard Disk, SD Card Slot, DV Input, and HDMI Output with EZ Sync™ Control
Records to DVD-RAM/-R/-RW/+R/+RW Discs
http://tinyurl.com/2zpkqp
List Price: $499.95

I haven’t found any reviews of the Panasonic models yet.

However, I have found an unbelievably high number of AWFUL reviews for this model:

COBY DVD-R1280 DVD recorder / HDD recorder

In fact, this model, and all other DVR DVD recorders, have been discontinued by the manufacturer (Coby).

As of today, there are 70 reviews for the Panasonic DMR-EH75VS on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-reviews/B000FKKO74/

I am very impressed (frankly, I'm amazed) with the amount of time and detail that many of these reviewers have invested in making their assessments.

Even if you aren't in the market for a DVR/DVD recorder combo, you might want to check out these reviews.

I sorted the reviews with "Lowest Rating First" and worked my way up the chain.

Panasonic (or any other manufacturer) could learn a tremendous lesson on how DVR/DVD recorders should be designed and built.
