Newbie here. Hello to all.

I have a vrdvd4005 and it will not read DVD-R dvds that are higher than 8X fast. How do I now record with DVDs that are 16X or higher ? It will not format nor record on these DVDs 16X or higher. Is there an upgrade or do I just throw it out and and get a new VCR/DVD combo ? Any help would be appreciated.
