There is a hotfix available from Microsoft  to address an issue with DVD/CD or CD-RW Burners that occurs in XP SP2 only.See Microsoft KB Article 883523.The problem is actually worse than the article makes out.I had a system crash,the DVD/CD-RW drive spin-up to maximum speed and not stop until I shut down,the same burner go through the burn process and actually not burn a CD,it was not recognised by the system but was still working etc.So if you have any unusual issues with your burner in SP2 I would recommend applying the fix.It is already there in the Beta of SP3.
