In my opinion, the problem has nothing to do with the CD/DVD burner: Load a problem mp3 into a CD playlist (as if you were about to burn an audio CD) then double-click the file, and choose "indexes, limits, splits". If you now play the file from within Nero, you will see that the 'skipping' happens now, before even burning a CD. This, to my mind, does prove that it is indeed the mp3pro.dll file (or whatever else nero uses to decode the mp3) causing the problem on your system, and nothing to do with the burner or CD media. And using an older version of the mp3pro.dll worked well for me!
