I noticed a few things about this review:

-From the Introduction:
"We inserted a 700MB CD-R disc and created a new project with a 1.384MB capacity"
should be 1.384Gb, or 1,384MB

-From the HD Burn page:
The 1.384Gb (or 1.384MB as listed) compilation, when it is burned, has not burned the whole compilation, due to missing files. You can see in Nero's report that many files were missing from the compilation
???

-From the K-Probe Testing Page:
The review claims to be testing recordable DVD media on a LTR-52246S. That is a 52x24x52x CD Writer/Reader only [:I]

also from that page, the version of K-Probe is not listed, it's not that important, but as I am assisting in the beta testing of the software I have some interest, and others may as well.

on the whole still a good review, and not a bad drive

The review seems good, but certainly user and moderator feedback is always better!:)

Thank you for the comments. We would like to apologize for some typing erros in the review, that would possibly not be corrected without your feedback.

The reader we used for the Kprobe v1.1.14 tests is the LiteON XJ-HD165H 16x DVD-ROM, which will be presented in details in our upcoming articles.

I personally enjoy reading all your substantial comments.

I almost settled getting this drive until I saw its performance with scratched media. While I take good care of my discs I am afraid to accidentally drop a HD Burned CD-R and find several precious data, say images I took from a trip, unrecoverable. One thing I noticed in the review is it appears the drive is using the older firmware (Nero reported a 4MB buffer). Is there any chance the updated firmware would have improved the drive's error correction? Would it possible for someone to conduct this test? Thanks.

According to Optorite, the newer versions do not affect the error correction performance. Although it is difficult to update the tests with newer firmware installed, we could ask Optorite whether an upcoming firmware revision resolves the issue and run the specific tests again.

It makes it very hard when Companies like Optorite and Liteon release New Firmware just like Shelling Peas !!!
It would be better for you and us if Companies didn't Release Products untill they do what they are supposed to do instead of using the Customers for Quality Control !!!
