ok i think i have aver thign i need 2 git the dvd on my hd but see whan i was tacking the files there was 2 maney the dvd was 2 big 2 go on the dvd-r and the dvd is 2hrs long i have 120is that not 2hrs

lol so what am i doing wrong how do i go about makeing a dvd-r

I think what you need is:
DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink

cdrinfo.com has some documentation on how to use them...

HI i am also new to this whole thing... i have everything i need but was wondering if i could have some advice... my mate put a cartoon programme on to my pc and i was wondering how to burn it so it can play on a dvd player connected to my tv??? can anyone give any advice ? thanks in advance.

There are a quite a few programs out there that make dvds out of mpeg and such files. A common one is NeroVision express 2. It comes bundled with the new NERO. Follow the nero help tips. Pretty easy to do. Also Sonic My DVD is very user friendly and does the same thing.
