What would the benefit of this be over 2C8_SE? I'm still trying to figure out all of these different firmwares for the NEC.

2.18 is the latest firmware, but several users still prefer v2.C8 over 2.18

I installed 2.18SE and burned a dual layer movie. When I checked the bitsetting of the disk...it said DVD+R DL and did not signify DVD-ROM bitsetting. So I went back to 2C8SE and I'm leaving it there...by DEFAULT both DVD+R and DVD+R DL are DVD-ROM bitsetting.

2.18SE doesn't have +R bitsetting, that was the only thing lacking until Liggy came up with his new hacked firmware.

On an on-topic note, I can report a good burn and bitsetting of all types is available on Liggy's firmware.

After setting the booktype of +R SL media to -ROM I burned a movie and this is what I got:

_NEC DVD_RW ND-3500AG 2.18
Current Profile: DVD+R

Disc Information:
Status: Complete
Erasable: No
Sessions: 1
Sectors: 2,285,936
Size: 4,681,596,928 bytes
Time: 508:01:11 (MM:SS:FF)
Supported Write Speeds: 2.4x, 4x, 6x, 8x, 12x, 16x

Physical Format Information (ADIP):
Disc ID: YUDEN000-T02-00
Book Type: DVD+R

Physical Format Information (Last Recorded):
Disc ID: YUDEN000-T02-00
Book Type: DVD-ROM

My dual layer did NOT get the booktype of DVD-ROM after the burn...which even NEC's firmware is supposed to do. I did NEC's, the 2.18 SE and even Liggy's new one. The only firmware that seems to give me consistent bitsetting is 2C8SE.

Did you explicitly set it to -ROM after flashing? The default for DL media in 2.18 is not -ROM unless you change it yourself.

I used +R TY 02 media with the booktype set to -ROM. Only blemish appears to be a spec of dust on the disc ;)

No...guess I figured that the firmware would do it like 2C8 SE did for me. Figured that out later...still keeping 2C8SE...I use mainly TY and Verbatim media so even the older firmware gives me great burns.

bomitch, simply use Nero CD/DVD Speed 3.50 or WinBType or DVDInfoPro to check and set current bitsetting.

And verify that Nero do not override those setting in the option of the burner section.

Hi everyone. I am a brand new member.
Does anybody know how many times u can flash the NEC successfully? I hope there isn't some sort of limit because I heard too many flashing could destroy the flash buffer of the drive. Is this for real? Also is Liggy's modified 2.18 the best firmware with overall burning results or should I use another?

Thanks in advance,

killjoy

hello... first time poster...

a noobie question about this 2.18 firmware... does it add the support for Datawrite DVD-R 8x?? or have I bought myself 100 discs of crap?? I tried the 2.17 firmware... it does upgrade nero for instance support 8x writing for these discs, but the same problem remains, the end of the disk suffers from pixelization when watchin on dvd-player.

I have a NEC ND-2510A writer with the mentioned 2.17 firmware.
