I've been having alot of problems getting this drive to work in my system... I was able to update it to the newest firmware A103 but I had to use my other computer to update it..

The drive is detected by windows and by the bios during boot up.. initially, windows displays the drive as a DVDRAM drive in My Computer, but as soon as I put a disc in there (DVD or CD) the name changes in My Computer to CD ROM drive and no contents are displayed in the window.. I've been reading through this forum about bitsetting.. which caught my attention after several hours of scouring the internet for answers.. any help would be greatly appreciated.. thx..

Ok, here's what's happening now after playing around with the bitsetting, I would insert a disc (doesn't matter what kind, blank cdr/dvdr, an app cd or a video dvd) and the system would hang (then eventually time out) when I try to access the contents of the drive.. hope someone here has encountered this problem of mine, currently the drive is set as the master on the secondary ide channel (changing it to the slave on the secondary doesn't work either).. would it be a problem if my MOBO has the via chipset?

Seems like I had a similar problem to yours. ( LG 4163B not reading DVD's ) Only difference is that my writer read all except burned data DVD's. Unfortunately I didn't notice whether the name changed after I inserted the DVD. My PC also hung untill I ejected the DVD.
