Hi,
I just got a powerbook G4 and I am planning to use it to rip and burn my cds with the best quality possible. The cd burner that comes with it is a Matshita DVD-R UJ-825. I would like to know if iTunes would do the job I am looking for. I was planning to use it to rip cds in the highest quality they have in the AIF format and then burn the cd using these files. Since I am hardly knowledgeable in these matters I was wondering if you could suggest better options.

Most probably not supported and never will it be supported.

With a mac, you can rip into AIFF but when you burn these to cd's, I don't know if you'll be able to play them on a regular cd player. If this is just a backup thing, then no problem, you can play them on your computer, but as far as regular cd players, I don't know. I've never tried to play them on anything but my computer. But, Apple claims to have a lossless encoder, so AAC seems to be their choice, or MP3.

If you get nero or equivalent for mac (Running windows?) then you can rip to mp4 highest bitrate and lossless quality, and nero will convert to cd audio. Also, if u get itunes they are m4p codec, quicktime full version can play them. Also some dvd players can play mp4 but not m4p. Again convert them and use nero to burn to dvd-r you will be able to fit about 20 albums on 1 dvd. However as far as ripping and burning goes....

Ripping cd audio :- copying audio cd tracks to another disk/format/bitrate/file type....

Burning :- the actual act of copying the ripped tracks to a cd/dvd.
