Very interesting graphs, thanks!
Can you tell us how did you manage to scan at various speeds?
I though the scanning was limited to 2xCLV and could not be changed?
It's interesting to note that some discs that remain readable at 2xCLV become unreadable at 12xCAV, again showing that we really are in uncharted territory with higher rotational speeds (CAV mode). The quality just isn't there yet, to even read accurately at 12xCAV, not to mention write at 12xCAV.
Also, do you think that on this test:
http://www.cdrinfo.com/forum/tm.asp?m=68880 the rising and then rapidly falling PIE rates (saw-like graph) are a sign of rising linear velocity until some tolerance figure is reached and after which the drive throttles down to much lower read velocity and start speeding it up again?
If so, it's a kind of a "almost 12xCAV most of the time, at least until speed needs to be downshifted" test mode.
Or is the rising of the linear read velocity non-linear?
cheers,
halcyon
