I'm looking for Plextor firmware from version 1.1 to 1.4 that is not of the new stuff that they have reposted to their website. According to an article I read, if I downgrade, I should be able to use blindread/blindwrite to burn copies of games with SafeDiskv2 protection.

This must be beeon one of the most hoax stories ever posted in various website. Downgrade your firmware will NOT allow you make SD2 backups. Try latest CloneCD with "Amplify Weak Sectors" and "Hide-CDR media" settings
