I followed Markk's step-by-step instructions (thanks for taking the time to write this up) for flashing the 1632 to 2040, but I tried to upgrade my AOPEN 1632 to 2440. The upgrade went OK (no errors, that is) and after a reboot, my system BIOS seemed to identify the drive correctly as a CRW2440. The problem is that Windows XP wouldn't read/write anything I put in the drive. The light would come on, and it would spin up, then down, then it would freeze up. After a few reboots and a little tinkering, I gave up. I then flashed it with the 2040 firmware, and it is working great. I was really hoping I could jump to a 24X, but 20X will have to do. In any case, it's the cheapest upgrade I've ever done!!!! Free!!! I wonder if another OS might make a difference?? Probably not. Scoobinater
