I have noticed that in Media Information the Format Type of some DVD+R media (for example SONY D11) is identified as "UDF 117." when it should be "UDF 1.02" instead. Anyone else have noticed this?

Earlier versions of dvdinfopro had a bug that could cause the UDF version to be calculated incorrectly. This was fixed in a recent version, so if you you are comparing the version numbers to what the disc previously may have said the two will show differences. I am not aware of any current problem.

Problem occurs with version 3.57, so it does not seem that the bug has been fully fixed. And I have seen it only happening with DVD+R media. This has been verified on two different drives.

Just burned a SONY  DVD+R and examined the disc with dvdInfo V4.16:

Media code/Manufacturer ID                                    SONY    D11
Media Product Revision Number                                              00h
Format Type                                                                        UDF 48.5

You can see that Format Type is identified as UDF 48.5 which obviously is not correct. Is this a bug?

Can you provide your burner model and firmware version,  and the program you are using and its version.  I checked many +R discs on the last three versions of nero, across five drives and UDF showed 1.02 correctly,  I have been unable to fault it,  I do expect however some burning software may write this field incorrectly,  given its strange way is structured.

It would seem to be as I feared,  the software is not writing out the version string properly.  I will put in a workaround in the next version,  this should be reported to the authors of the burning software.

So, is the problem in the way the format type was written on the disc or is it a problem not reading it correctly from the dic?

Hi,

as I said,  all tests here show the disc udf versions fields are being written wrongly,  tests on all all other burning apps here show the version as expected.  I have written to the author,  if they reply I will post back here.

Any updates on this issue? Do you think it's safe to keep using the software or should I wait to see if it gets fixed? It seems that DVR-R media do not show this problem.

I just tried burning a DVD+R disc with Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.5 and look at the results!

                                    Media Information

Region information                                    N/A not a DVD-VIDEO
Media code/Manufacturer ID                                    SONY    D11
Media Product Revision Number                                         00h
Format Type                                                      UDF 0.08
Volume Name
Application id
Implementation id                                     RoxioBurnEngine 2.1
Recording Date/Time (mm/dd/yyyy)                       7/ 9/2005 11:54:58
Format Capacity                                            4.37GB(4.70GB)
Book Type                                                         DVD-ROM
Media Type                                                          DVD+R
Manufacturer Rated Speed                                   8.0x 11080KBps
Data area starting sector                                          30000h
Data area end sector                                              22FFBFh
Linear Density                                                0.267um/bit
Track Density                                                0.74um/track
Number of Layers                                                        1

Format Type is incorrect again! What is going on here?
