Hello,
What DVD drive has the best writing quality.Let's say we have the best quality media and use the best quality speed.Rewritable and DL media are not important in this case.
I thought it was Plextor 712A but I am not sure now. In all computer magazines in my country, Plextor 712A is the best.

The quality is a combination of the drive and the media. So it is not so absolute to tell. Currently there are many quality burners available in the market for BenQ, NEC, LG and Plextor.

BenQ DW1620A is among the best burners when coming to writing quality with DVD+R media

yes, and NEC for both +/- R is good, but bad for reading!

and LG is good at +/- R, good at reading, but some medias are limited the burning speed, and lack of support!

Plextor is good, but 716A seems not as good as 712A!

Plextor 716A w/1.04u firmware is excellent stuff.

The 716A with it's new firmware, and pending 1.05 firmware is an outstanding writer.

I dream maybe with just firmware Plextor can enable LightScribe. Does anybody know if its possible w/just a firmware.

I suppose anything is possible, but this is not planned for Plextor.

lightscribe isn't possible unless a drive is designed for it.

There is a special alignment hub on all lightscribe disks on the label side. A special peice of hardware is needed to track this lightscribe hub for positioning information. Without that hardware, no lightscribe can function.
